Slow CD Burns
« on: February 27, 2004, 08:46:51 am »

I have an external firewire 52x CD-RW drive, and I can't get MC to burn at normal speeds. It starts out fine, when burning the write-in text (I can tell by hearing the burner spin at top speed), but then once it starts burning the songs it slows down to what seems like 1x or 2x because it takes about 10 minutes to burn one CD. I get normal speeds with other programs. I tried searching the forums for an answer but I couldn't find anything. Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't know if this is really relevant to your problem, but I was experiencing similar problems with Media Center and my burner.  Mine is an internal 24x drive, but also a Lite-On.  I flashed the firmware today and now it is working great again.  Like you, my problems were only in Media Center, so I was surprised that a firmware update fixed it.  Firmware for Lite-On drives is at http://www.liteonit.com it might be worth a try... it's pretty painless, a they have a Windows installer and it doesn't require a reboot.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. I'm going to try it out now.
