Can user messages (like Playlist is empty) be turned off?
« on: March 22, 2004, 01:24:16 am »

My biggest problem with MC is solved, and I thank you all for that. But there is the smaller one, which I have gotten around...sort of, but not in a graceful way: If you press play on a remote and there's nothing in the playlist, both Girder and MC stops until somebody uses the mouse or keyboard with windows messages and MC stops with command line (which is why I use mjextman commands on all play and pause and put in a wait (five seconds) with wait for window in it (waiting for that OK button, of course). The problem is that it stops Girder for five seconds while waiting. Can it in any way be done so that this doesn't occur? Again this is only slightly annoying for me, but maybe other people have more problems with it?

Use the AlarmTimer plug in instead of the wait command in girder.  The alarm timer will be set to execute a multigroup or command when it times out.  That command will check if window exists and hit Ok if it does.

I know. I thought of that. I just need to find a free timer ID. But it would be very nice and less complicating if I didn't have to do that. Which is why I'm asking.

I wonder if there's any way to interrogate MC to get the number of files in PN?  That way you could run a variable manipulation script in Girder that triggers a girder event (Play) only if the number of files >0.  If the number of files is 0 it could pop up an OSD instead.

I'm sure DVDSpy can check the number of files. But instead of the OSD I'd have to use some kind of a sound file (probably a wave file I record myself, like the 0-9 wave files that plays when pressing digits on the remote) since this is a system without a monitor, used by my wife and kids. I have tried the task create option once, but I don't think I have used task switch. I could try that. But of course the script would easily be the most elegant option! Maybe I'll have to ask somebody over at the Girder board if they can help me. I'm about as hopeless with scripts as Schwarzenegger is with Shakespeare...
