Relocate MC10 installation?
« on: March 23, 2004, 10:28:00 pm »

I just installed a new Hard Drive on my PC this evening (160GB Maxtor for $69 @ Office Depot).

I plan to move ALL my media files over to this new location.  I'd also like to relocate my MC10 installation to this new location.

What the best approach to make this move most efficient??

Advice?

The best approach would be to do a disk to disk copy with DriveIMage or Ghost, or something like that. If you can't do that, moving the files is pretty easy. If you're taking out the old harddrive you don't need to do anything special, just move the files to the new disk and make sure the partition has the same drive letter as the former media storage. If you want to keep the old harddrive as well and will assign a new drive letter to the new harddrive, that's not difficult either:

Simply select all files you want to move, choose "Library tools" and Search/Replace. Replace all instances of for instance F:\ with F:\ (assuming that your old media drive is E and the new one is F) in the field Filename (or Filename (path) - but I haven't tried that one). As for moving MC if you're not doing a partition copy I guess you would have to re-install it.

Thanks Mastiff,

The real point of my question was:

If I uninstall and re-install MC10 on new disk and move my media files, what happens to the MC10 library.

Breaks, right??

I would move all of my media files to the new hard drive, now, from within MC, that way the links to the files stay in-tact.

Then, I would back-up everything, uninstall MC, install it to the new location, then restore the library, which already points to the new hard drive.
