Import Media from multiple locations?
« on: March 23, 2004, 09:03:13 am »

Hello,

Is it possible to import media from different locations at the same time. My media is spread in 3 different drives and directories. Right now, I'm importing them one by one when i'm adding new media. Can Media Centre remember those 3 locations and scan them with one botton click?

Right now, my media is in X:\MP3, Y:\WAV and Z:\APE

Thanks

That would be really nice. I get the same problem when importing over the network. However, on my wish list this one has a rather low priority.

Much more important, however, is to get a more reliable display of album covers when using APE files with embedded cover art on a slow (866Mhz) system. One of 5 covers is not displayed.

(Sorry lpr for hijacking the thread ;))

go to king sparta's website and take a look at folder sleuth - it monitors whatever folders you set it to and imports new media automatically:

Looks like this could work, but it's not on my setup... It's not saving my  watched folders... It would be great if this could be done from MC and not with the use of a plugin with ads.

Take care,

What's wrong with ads?  Just run the plug in and ignore the ads like you have to do everytime you walk down the street, get on a bus, watch the TV etc. etc.

King has put a lot of hard work and effort into building a plug in after multiple requests from the forum and it does the job nicely.  So I doubt very much that JRiver will divert resources to implementing this function within MC just because someone can't cope with an ad.  I mean, the ad is not even in annoying pop up or anything - it's just a banner like at the top of this web page so just ignore it and get on with it.

[rant over]

If you don't want your folders watched can't you just disable the plug in in plug in manager and start it up when you want to import?

bear in mind that the average american spends approx 2 years of their life watching TV commercials and by the age of 12 children are likely to have been exposed to over 1,000,000 media messages. [source: affluenza, de graff et al.]

i wouldnt worry about 1 more...

Oups, did I open a can of worms..?

MC is a very powerfull software with daily beta(s) and new code every week. I simply suggested that it would be great if it was coded in the software.

Like i said, at the present time the plugin is not working for me... I have to re-enter each time my 3 folders.

No need to start a flame war on ads, it was just an observation.

Thanks for your comprehension.

no problem. ive just done a class on marketing so felt i had something to share!

King has a thread on the folder sleuth in the third pary section of MC - prehaps you could look there for an answer. Or just move this thread over there (check with moderators if you want that)

I'm with you 100% on this one.  I don't want a plug-in which will monitor nominated folders. I just want to be able to tell MC to import from 2 different locations.

It's a pain importing from one folder and then going through exactly the same process again to choose another import location
