Cannot install MediaCenter 10 anymore
« on: March 28, 2004, 10:18:09 am »

Hi,
I got some trouble with MC10. I cannot install a new version anymore. Before I installed some new beta releases always over the exiting one and it worked fine.

But since 10.097 installation  does not work anymore. Now I tried 10.100 - it's just the same.
After starting the installation this message is shown:
Setup is starting with Media Center 10 Setup is preparing ... Please wait.

But when the progress bar reaches 100% the following appears: "Errors encountered while performing the operation. Look at the information window for more details".

That's it - I can click "OK" and nothing more is happening... no "information window" or anything else.
Now I did a complete uninstall of MC10 but the error still remains...

Using Win XP Pro SP1, P4 2,6GHz, 512 mb RAM

Anyone having an idea, what might be wrong...?
Thanks!

Open Internet Explorer, Tools Internet Options, "Delete Files" Button.

It could be a bad download.  Try downloading without using a download manager.

It's more likely to be a temp file space problem.  Run IE and do tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet Files/Delete Files.  It can take a while.

Hi,

you're really the best. That was the problem: Some weeks ago I read an article which says, that it would be much better and faster to put the "Temporary Internet Files" into a RAM drive, a size of 16 mb would be enough and I did so.... but nobody said, that a download might not exceed 15mb. Because the Interenet Explorer cuts every file at this size and says "download succeeded" - d***** tips....

I put the cache back to hard drive and download works....

Sorry for bothering you and thank you very much!

u might want to set IE to empty out temporary files each time you exit IE.

Tools->Internet Options->Advanced->Security

Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed (check)

this has the added benefit of preventing your temp folder from growing to an unwieldy size and slowing down your system eventually.

Thx for the 15Mb tip, have not used RAM dirves for this, i find if your drive is defragged on a regular basis and temp folder kept clean things are quite fast.
