Unable to purchase V10
« on: March 19, 2004, 11:47:18 pm »

Just tried purchasing V10 of Media Center.  When I click the purchase button, it comes back as credit card declined.  Now I know my credit card is good, and I called the bank and they confirmed that nothing weird is going on with my card.  And I double and triple checked the number and expiry date.

Is there something wrong with your servers? Or is it a problem that I am in Canada?  I'll try again tomorrow.

Any others had this problem?

It happens sometimes, or so I hear.  Just try again later. ;)

Oh, and for best results, make sure you use IE (not Opera, Mozilla, etc.) when making your purchase.

Just try v10.  There's no point in going for 9 as 10 will go full public release soon so you'll have an out of date version that is not fully supported.

OK, is there any other way to upgrade to V10?  The web purchase page simply refuses to accept my credit card, which I know worked before because it is the same card I used to purchase the last few upgrades.  Is there any way I can use Paypal?

BTW, I only have one credit card, so I don't have the option of trying another one.

Contact your credit card company again to make sure they do not have any restrictions on internet purchases.  If they don't then keep trying for a few more days.

Hi,

I just tried upgrading from MC 9.1 to MC 10 for the excellent upgrade price of 9.98 (thanks J River) however I have the same problem of "Credit card declined", even though it's the same card I used to purchase 9.1...

I tried without and then with spaces between the blocks of numbers on my VISA card.

I guess I'll try later - hopefully I won't miss the 9.98 window due to this issue...

Kwake - check your e-mail (the one you used during the purchase process).

wow, this is surreal.

Called my bank.  They said something just wasn't being sent correctly and asked if the online vendor was using the "Verified by Visa" system.  I wasn't sure, so I signed up for it, then tried again tonight.  No go.  Called them again.  This time, they said that the transaction system was at fault.  They were being very vague, probably so as not to give away security information.  But they said that it was neither the Vendor's or Bank's fault.  It was that the information being sent to the bank was not the correct format or something like that.

They suggested that I should try to contact the vendor to see if they would do a manual transaction.  When I suggested that maybe I should try another bank, they said that another credit card may have the same problem, and they stressed that it wasn't the bank's fault.

Any chance I can just mail you a money order?

I swear, this feels just like the Twilight Zone.

Hi olyar15,

Drop me an e-mail (you should have my address from the mail I sent yesterday). This is better discussed privately. I agree about the twilight zone.

Hi,

Just a note to say I was able to purchase the v10 upgrade using my credit card today.

The difference is that I tried on my Thinkpad at work. I have no idea why it won't work from my home PC. I had tried 4 or 5 times with no luck. Maybe something to do with my home ISP or something, who knows...

So, to those that are having trouble, try purchasing on another PC and then you'll receive the upgrade key in your email on your main PC and be able to register the upgrade there. It's not a bank or credit card problem.
