New Camera
« on: November 12, 2002, 05:11:29 pm »

I got a new digital camera. I can't think of anything to take pictures of and I haven't read the directions yet but here's a couple of pictures of where I spend mosdt of my time in the evening:
The Command Center (where I am at this very moment)

And behind me is:

I'm sure there will be more later. This thing is cool.

JimH, These things are really big. What size should they be?

It's cosmic, isn't it?  Amazing.  I can read the stuff on your desk.  What are those old wheels doing under your desk?

Next step is to get an image editor and resize your pictures.  That must be something like 1600 x 1200 pixels.  35% of the orginal will still be pretty big.

I pity those guys who have 28K modems who are still wondering what's in this thread.

OK, your desk is neater than mine.

(These are 35% of original.)

C8 -

I like the Yamaha speakers.  I suppose you can hear them OK sitting that close (!!).

Is that a picture of Clinton on the right speaker?  Are you studying the chemistry of dry-cleaning, or do you just like stained blue dresses?  What a legacy.

I refuse to post a picture of my VERY CLEAN office <yeah right>.  But Jim's post does make me feel a little better.

Wow, look at that!!

A master security key for all future MJ and MC releases!  Cool!!  I've zoomed in, applied a little digital image enhancement, and can't wait for new releases.

I'm off to post this to the Winamp forum! <LOL>

Ha ha.

They'll love it at Winamp.  Here's more or less what it says:

Irene's peas and rice, Exhuma, 12-2000, hot pan, oil, salt (brown the salt), oil , onion,
sweet pepper, celery, one tomato, (optional ham, bacon, butter, peas or  corn or mushrooms),
cook all down, pidgeon peas (black), lots of thyme, cook down, add cocoanut milk (maybe),
water, kitchen bouquet (Browning & Seasoning).

Irene was the cook in the back of a small bar on a beach on a small island in the Bahamas.  I had a Kalik (pronounced Click) beer there one afternoon.  Well maybe it was two....  And I ordered a bowl of the peas and rice.  It was a very simple meal but really tasty.

When I left, I went around to the kitchen door, where there were two ladies cooking and serving.  The door opened onto the deck which overlooked the beach.

I stuck my head in the kitchen and said, "That was really good peas and rice.  I make it at home but it's nothing like yours."  She looked at me and said, "You come back tomorrow and I'll show you how to make it."

Next morning I came back at the time she said.  The whole crew (3 people) showed up on a pontoon boat about an hour later.  I helped them unload the stuff and then spent about an hour in the kitchen with Irene, learning how to make it.  I took notes on the back of the beer label.  Those notes are in the picture above.  My version of Irene's Peas and Rice is below.

Kalik ,yes ,more a feeling of 'exotic' than a great beer

Seing your desk ,i understand 'the new licence': no hope to find the floppy with the 'old one ' on it.
So better to have it 'on line'

Steve
I am not sure ,but look like the pictures look better here than on your home page. Can be just my feeling .
You have 2 of this big  Peavey.
You use it as the speakers for the living-room?

What is the use of the Yamaha ? You can enjoy it when sit at your computer?

Post a picture where we can see the original walls .
I would like very much to see it.

Listening to: 'Moonage Daydream' from 'The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Sta' by 'David Bowie' on Media Jukebox

Never was in Bowie. To much music for young girls weeting they panties during concert.
But this album is really good

JimH,
HA! Your desk is messier than mine. I forgot those wheels were there. They're from an old chair that I wore out. Why keep them ? I dunno.
I see you also have a Stereo-Link. Mine is visible behind my XP upgrade that I can't use.

Scronch,
Silly me --- I like Clinton. If he could run again, I'd vote for him again. And the Yamaha's are quite loud (or can be) sitting 2 feet or less away. I'll explain my sledge hammer : fly speakers later.

Zevele,
I am ashamed and proud to admit that the Peavey's are behind me about 8 feet away. This room is about 12 feet square. Overkill? You betcha. I'll explain further down.

Those are my walls. That is my floor. I love wood.

Xen,
Nice desk. From the charts on the wall, you must work there, too. The bottle on the floor? Nice artistic touch.
Who's the babe?

Now I'll explain my speaker fetish and answer John Gateley, too.

When I was 18 years old, the first large purchase I made was a component stereo system. (Note the Advent on the floor on the right side of the chair. There's another on the left. They are original 1971 Advents. New guts but OEM replacements. They are my second set of speakers. They actually have better bass response than the 15" biggies.)

I decided on this due to a dream I had. In that dream, I was in a large auditorium alone in the center seats.

All was quiet and then I hear the rustling of a vinyl album (that's all there was, then -- it was even before cassettes) and WHAMO! Led Zeppelin - Good Times, Bad Times blasts out of a pair of Altec-Lansing Voice of the Theatre speakers.  :o  End dream.

I have wanted auditorium-type speakers ever since but I can only afford them after 33 years of wanting them and then only if they are used -- very used.

The Yamaha's were left at the local music shop for a speaker cone replacement (note the one the doesn't say Yamaha) and never got picked up. I got them for $150 for the pair and had to put an $80 crossover in the unrepaired one but they sound good-as-new.
THe Peavey's came from the same music store as a trade-in. I got them for $250 for the pair. All I had to do to them was paint over the band name that was stenciled all over them.
I am trying to avoid that music store ... too expensive and the owner now knows my weakness.

For what it's worth, I now have more and larger speakers in my 12' x 12' room than our high school auditorium does.

That's probably way more than anybody wanted to know. Incidentally, my first CD purchase was Led Zeppelin I.

OK. Here's one at 25% size. My son (CIX) lounging in front of the TV. It's unnerving how much he looks like me at that age. Even the clothes.

I went to a concert last night to see John Kay of Steppenwolf fame. Good concert. He's much more versatile than his two hits would suggest. Anyhow, I took my new camera to the "Reception" both before and after the concert. Here are the results:

This is me with him.

This is my son with him. (Son knows all the words to "Magic Carpet Ride" ... I know, he sang them loudly)

Also I took some more pictures so you folks coud know more:

My Son

My Daughter

My House

Now you know even more than you wanted to.

This is really funny .
I 'saw' you kind of 'skin and bones' ,the first second ,i was sure that  john Kay was you!!!!!

Anyway sure you had a very good evening listening to him.
I was not mad about Steppenwolf, after they 2 first ,i stopped to buy .
I have a site where i can get most of they albums and i want to  listen to it.
But the live is not on the catalogue ,and this one i really would like to listen to.
Your son has a very R&R look . But you have only 2 kids ,no 3 ?

The house is just ....and even more! Do you have trees with kind of ?? white stuff hanging from the branchs

Today i allmost got a tatoo, but the one i saw was $150 ..so .... next time or never

By the way ,you look a little like Clapton

Z,
I was very thin until I was about 25 and discovered beer and home cooking.
I have mostly trees ... 18 acres and the only grass is about an acre and a half around the house. I still have about a half dozen large sugar maples around the house. Brilliant in the fall. Maybe next year I can show them. I also have a very large elm tree in front of the house with a swing hanging from it. I'm leaning against it to take the picture. And there's a VERY large poplar tree next to the garage. I guess I'll have to take more pictures. I told you I like wood. I love trees. The bigger the better. I want to go to California to see the Douglas Firs there. And the Redwoods.

Here's another picture:

My dog.
