File Conversion Issue
« on: April 30, 2004, 12:24:38 pm »

Last night I selected about 15 albums worth of ape files and converted them into mp3.  This morning I got up and all the mp3s were there, but when i looked for the original ape files they were missing.  So i went toithe actual directory they were supposed to be and they were till there.  I had unchecked the option to send the original to the recycling bin.  So then I tried to reimport them, which is obviously a pain since I have a bunch of custom tags which would be lost.  But i selcected the ape file directory and media center told me that there were no files found.

Any ideas what is going on here?

thanks,
Kain

You needed to uncheck the Update Database right above the Send original file to Recycle Bin....which will keep the apes from dropping out but also means you have to manually import the mp3's (that is...if you want them in your library). MJ & MC have always behaved this way as I recall (replacing original with converted file). One way to get your apes back in would be to open an explorer window and select your files>right click>Media Center>Import.

Interesting I will try that in the future.

I guess the follow up question is why does this happen.  If i want to have all of my files in two formats, whould that not be supported?

and is there any way i can get my custom tags back or are they lost?

thanks for the info,
Kain

If you backed up your library, you could try a restore. You would then have to import the MP3 files into the library to have both. (assuming restore does the trick)
