[Update] Names Missing
« on: March 15, 2005, 02:26:03 pm »

(Update to the Names Missing discussion.)

Summary:
The name field was cleared on most (about 40,000) tracks in my MC library. It turned out that something had truncated or corrupted the file "field (name).jmd". "Update Library (from tags)" restored the names but the cause was not determined.

Latest:
A couple of days later I noticed certain files showed as missing that were not actually missing. Investigation showed that the "filename" field had been cleared on many tracks. I restored a backup to fix this problem.

Since then I've noticed that recently imported files often have the name missing and I use "Update Library (from tags)" to correct.

The missing names have remained a consistent problem and I wonder if using import was the cause of the original problem. I often import MP3 (and a few AAC) files using the shell extension context menu on a folder name. I do this at least once a day to import new podcasts. I was auto-launching "mjextman /silent import" but I stopped using that over concerns that importing in the background caused my earlier problems.

Please let me know if there is any more information I can provide to help fix this bug.

Thanks.
