Does anyone know why Media Center won't find tag info when MUSICMATCH and realplayer find the tags no problem? I'm trying to burn and burnt disk which doesn't seem to have any tag info on it. The other programs get that info online very quickly but MC chokes...

1. MC uses YADB (J River's own database) and MMJB & Real uses CDDB. As I  understand it (somebody correct me if I'm wrong), Yadb looks for the CD ID # embeded in a CD to look up CD info. CDDB uses  the ID# and/or the file name, therefore MMJB & Real get more hits if you are looking up data from file names. The reason J River uses thier own DB has to do with CDDB licensing issues. This has been discussed many times before...you can do a search on this topic.

2. If "Write CD Text" is not enabled when burning a CD then MC is not going to be able to read the track titles (they won't be there), but then, neither should any other player.

It isn't a CD ID embedded in the disk.  No such thing exists.

MC uses YADB for both CD lookup and track lookup.  They are different.

As a follow on, what information is available from a lookup?
Year? Composer? I have no idea what info is possible to be returned. It is the last thing I use an external app for, to tag files and get a cover image.
For that I use The Godfather which in turn uses AMG.

 :-[I didn't mean physically in the disc! I meant included in the data on the disc, as in a product code number. Every product has one, (similar to ID code in the bar code, which is scanned at the register and identifies what you just bought.

TAGGING is the ONLY thing I still use Music Match for. I am very satisfied with every other feature of Media Center. I would cheerfully dump MMJB if only I could.

Oh, It's your lucky day buddy.

Tag from file name:
  Right click --> Library Tools --> Fill properties from filename
and you can even get tag info from folders.

Tag preview before application
  You just hover any field with the mouse and click F2. Then you can write whatever you would like in the tag. It's right there previewed. Or you can click enter, and it'll show it. I don't think it updates before you go to another location, but I'm not sure. If your not satisfied just use ctrl  + z , and you'll undo it!

Tag choices before final selection
  I'm not sure what your trying to say here, but whenever your editing a track there's a pulldown window where you can choose from.

  MC have a master images (of ther artwork) which it'll crete in diffrent sizes. Go to options --> tree and view and select thumbnail to mess around with the setting.

a Tagging window
  I the action windows select file  proberties -->Tag info. There you are a Taggin window. You can choose which fields to show from the small icon in the left corner of the action window

Thanks, so I guess after I rip the CD in MMJB and properly tagged the songs, I should submit the tag info to YADB...so the next person will find the right tags...well i did this..
