HairStyles Mode - file sort?
« on: May 01, 2004, 11:00:42 am »

I've asked this before, but I must be mising something.

In MC10, in the HairStyle viewing mode, where is it getting the file order for display?

My photos show up in chronological order and I want them to show up in reverse chrono order, for example.

I can't seem to figure out how to change this.

it follows the rules and settings you have on the usual mega screen. Click on the images button and see what you have:

i have some setups like: year/genre/comment and beneath that i have the years

just delete / add / change until you have something you like. then go back to hairstyle view and your done...

This is driving me crazy.  I know I'm not THAT stupid.  Maybe I have something wrong with my setup.  These menus and the terminology are confusing.I've been using MC for a couple of months and still can't figure out this sorting.

In the "regular" display mode (mega-me?), where I have on the left the "action" window and the drives & devices, Plug-Ins, etc, I have images, audio, playlists, etc.

On the right I have columns up above (year, month, day) and in the pane below that I have the thumbs.  I read somewhere that you sort by clicking on the column header (year, month, day) but that does nothing.

I've been into the View>View Settings>Customize Current View; there are some reverse sort options in there, but that does nothing for me.  I have no idea what they're for.

This program has tons of great stuff, but setting it up is a nightmare- and I've been in computers for 24 years now.

Why can't I just sort the stupid list?

OK, I see that when I click on the column header on the bottom right pane that the list sorts.

However, that is not what I want.  I want the top pane's column sorted.  I don't know what that pane is called.  Like I say, the terminology eludes me.

What shows up on the "Theatre View/Mode" (Hairstyle?) is this upper pane's sorting.

StarBand

i think i understand the question. heres my attempt at a reply...

firstly MC's got quite a steep learning curve, but its sooooo functional its well worth the investment in time if your a media fan...

In the "regular" display mode (mega-me?), - yes

On the right I have columns up above (year, month, day) and in the pane below that I have the thumbs.  I read somewhere that you sort by clicking on the column header (year, month, day) but that does nothing. - okay this top half is for tagging and finding stuff. this doesnt really sort. if i click 1999, i only get media tagged as 1999, it doesnt order the results per say. but if i know the photo was taken in X country at Y date with Z people, its easy to narrow down the list

I've been into the View>View Settings>Customize Current View; there are some reverse sort options in there, but that does nothing for me.  I have no idea what they're for. - ignore that for now

DO THE FOLLOWING:
in the left window, above the action pane. click media library > images...
not whats under the images heading is what you will see in the hairstyle view, note all the boxs for each year - thats what you complained about originally (i think)

Now: right click > add view scheme > add whatever you want

for example i use:

Year/Genre/Comment and People/Place/Event

then when you transfer to hairstyle view these choices you set up are what you see...

moving through these levels thins down the number of files im left with and what remains should be easy to scroll through

So you'r saying I can't list 'em by year, reverse order?

I know the prog is powerful and don't mind the learning curve.  The tone you picked up on in my posts sprouts from frustration.  This should not be that hard and should be intuitive.  A whole lot of the rest of the program is.

Don't get me wrong.  I love MC 10.  It just seems odd to me that one of the more simple customizations I've wanted to do has had to be one of the last actually done - 'cause I can't figure it out;  and I've read the documentation, too.

I suppose I can scroll thru the remaining list after culling it, as you say, but all I really wanted was ... well, a dead horse is being flogged.

To paraphrase Woody Allen - does this make me a pugilistic necro-maniacal equestrian?

Thanks for all your help.

Theater View sorting isn't currently tied to the main views.

Maybe it'd be a good addition in the future.

Yep.  Theatre View is great for my needs, but it's customization is really lacking.  For the wife and kids on the big-screen tv, it's perfect.  I just wish I could change the layout some.

You can totally customize the view scheme structure and what items show.

If you edit the skin, you can move everything around.

It's really pretty customizable -- minus the sorting.

I'd vote for that.

Edit the skin?

How do I do that?

What is the filename and what sort of file is it?

Never Mind . . . I found 'em.  Thanks.  I just never thought of that.
