That's a lot of downloads!  Problem is that the program is pretty complicated and in some areas difficult to figure out, which will result in lost sales.  I think MC would be well-advised to have a noobie-level tutorial bundled or available.

If we did some kind of newbie tutorial, what should it include?

It should be a getting started demo.  I think that one of the hardest things to grasp when first using MC is the more fundamental stuff like tagging and setting up view schemes.  NetRemote is equally (if not more) of a steep learning curve but I think they did a really nice job with their getting started guide.  Here's an example that shows how to add a button in NR that will talk to Girder and Open Notepad.  This was just enough to get me started.

Maybe for MC it should cover something like:

Import some files
Tag them
Create a custom field and tag the files with that too
Create a simple view scheme to show all files with specific panes
Create another view scheme that only includes tracks tagged with the custom field

If I had time (which I don't right now) I would write it myself.  I'm sure that there are lots of people on this forum who would be willing to help by writing a short guide with a few screen pics similar to the NetRemote one.

In my two years of using Media Center I keep on finding new features. SUPPORT: Their online forum is vastly superior to email support as it provides a way for exchanging ideas and fine-tuning answers. Many features have evolved and developed from the support forum. Try it, you'll like it! (Try out the context sensitive menus (right click) for even more power!)

If we did some kind of newbie tutorial, what should it include?

Some sort of "How do I?" section, based on real world problems - emphasise the breadth of features.  Include examples of all the different media types that can be handled and the different types of users (newbies to power users) that are catered for.

I'd say a tutorial on views would be nice.
The use of 'best of breed' formats, like APE and LAME was a selling point to me.
This forum is the best 'feature' to me. I have NO idea how to promote it though. Everybody has a 'Support Forum'. But this one educates and actually provides support.
