OT: IE opens zip files instead of saving them
« on: May 31, 2004, 05:00:38 pm »

Help!  IE (actually MyIE2) opens zip files when downloading instead of saving them.  I know why, but I do not know how to change it back to "ask every time for this file type"

Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

Go to Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types, find the .ZIP extension and click the "Change" button.  Then uncheck 'Always use this program...'.  Next time you download a ZIP it *should* ask you what you want to do with it.

Thanks PaulR, you were very close.  The "Always use this program" option was checked and greyed out, so I could not uncheck it.  But under the "Advanced" button there is an option for "Confirm open after download" that solved the problem.  This is under Win XP Pro.

Thanks for pointing me in the rigt direction.
