List Valued Fields
« on: June 21, 2004, 10:15:47 am »

There are some type of information that are well suited to getting their values from a preset list (stored internally as a bitmap?). The "Keywords" could be one of these. This data type could be used to indicate "Key" (CM, Dm, Bbm, Atonal, N/A) or "Tempo" (4/4, 12/8, 5/4) for each track, allowing for multiple tonalities and/or tempos.

Not sure i understand exactly what is being said here.

But can't custom fields handle this ?

Suppose you want to add a "Key" field, indicating the tonality of a track. Possible values would be C, Cm, Db, Dbm, ..., B, Bm and Atonal. If a track is in C, you would choose only C. If a track is in F then modulates in Bb, you would check F and Bb. And so on.

So far I only added strings as custom fields. I don't know how to handle more complex datatypes.

This is possible.  Maybe read the help about list-type fields and tagging mode.

Create two custom fields called Key and Modulates

Create a Calculated field called Key-Modulates, in the Calculated data section of the configure library field , enter Key - Modulates.

Then create a view scheme that includes the calculated field.

This will display the way you want.

I admit you will have to enter the Key & Moudulates fields separately. But you will be able to access commonly used values in the dropdown.
