Can someone help me figure out how to sort artists by their last name instead of their first name?  (e.g. Bob Dylan is sorted under "B" for Bob, but it should be under "D" for dylan!).

Is there a way to do this automatically - if not is there a way to do this for artists that i put it in?

The only way I know of (in MC) is to enter the name (in the tag) as: Dylan, Bob instead of Bob Dylan.

Maybe someone else will come along here and further educate us both.

Have you tried to search for "Dylan" ?

For me, I don't really have a problem with it, as I always think of artists names just as I do "groups" or band names when it comes to rock/pop/jazz music. It's just one name to me.

My advice is to think whether there is really any benefit in this.  It is a lot of hassle and looks pretty ugly when people view the currently playing track in a visualisation or something similar and see 'Dylan, Bob'.  

You could create a custom field called 'artist sort' and simply put 'Dylan' in this field but, again, that's a lot of hassle.  If you take this route you can customise views to sort by this new field without actually displaying the field as a column.

I agree....to each his own but I use e.g. Bob Dylan for every artist except Ramones, The...I usually change The Ramones to Ramones, The but nice that MC can ignore the articles and place those artists appropriately anyway.
