use digital playback
« on: November 05, 2002, 09:53:20 am »

Hi to everybody
I have a reader Asus DVD-ROM E616 (ide) and a CRW Yamaha 8424S (scsi).
The reader Asus is connected to the connector CD of the card audio integrated in the MB Asus A7V266 while Yamaha is not connected to the card audio.
If I activate the option Use digital dubbing it doesn't work the reader Asus and I cannot even receive information on the cd audio inserted through CDDB.
Which are the characteristics and the conditions so that Use can use the option digital dubbing without any problem?

You need to clarify what your saying.

It sounds like you've got the DVD hooked into the onboard Audio IDE controller. If so then you should have 2 standard IDE channels as well (primary and secondary). These standard IDE ports is what you should plug your DVD into. After doing so you (may) need to make the system BIOS aware of the drive.

Xenno

A better explanation...
Audio IDE controllers (whether on-board or part of an add-on soundcard) generally are somewhat proprietary in nature. They don't seem to adhere to standards well. Motherboard IDE controllers do.

On IDE 1 is connected HD (master), on IDE 2 is connected CD Asus (master) and on internal SCSI board is connected CDR Yamaha

That looks good.

Sometimes the OS doesn't report the IDE or SCSI status correctly.  Try changing these in options.

Sometimes digital playback simply does not work.

We're working on trying to improve our support for CD drives.

Thanks for your interest

Disconnecting the CDR all regularly works but if I connect it I owe deactivate "use digital playback" to listen to the cdaudios and Rip CD doesn't work because of the following problems:
1) open drive failed. parameter is out of range.
2) read track failed. drive is not opened.

My CDR Yamaha is supported by Media Jukebox yet creates problems!

P.S. I'm Italian
