SACD and XP
« on: November 01, 2002, 02:02:35 pm »

I just picked up 2 remastered Rolling Stones CDs that wrere done by ABKCO in the SACD format.  They state there are 2 layers and both the regular CD format as well as the SACD format are there and that any CD player could read it.

Well my main box that has XP pro sure can't.  It'll be read in my 2k boot on my test box and also on my laptop that has 2k and MJ8 also.  It also is able to be played on a "old" cd player from 1988.

So is there an XP issue in reading these CDs that can be read by everything else that anyone knows of?

Right now I'll rip them to my laptop and transfer the files to my XP box.

I haven't got any hybrid SACD's, otherwise I'd test some on my XP box.

I read in a story today about the hybrid SACD/CDs that they cannot be read in a computer at all -- one of the lovely copy-protection features afforded by the dual-layer discs.

That's why they're only selling for $1 more than the regular CD version...

I don't think it's an XP issue. My copy of one of the same SACDs rips and play fine under XP.

It worked for me, I had to struggle a little but I'm not sure if it was an XP or Media Jukebox issue.

It's not a copy-protection issue since I have no problem using them in WIN2k.  Apparently there is something set on my XP box that prevents them form being read. I'll have to look deeper.

If anyone finds a solution I'll be v happy! as i dont have a W2K or 98 machine!

? >:(
Just tried
a) W2K / MJ8 .388   no joy
b) Other far inferior Jukebox (Winamp WMP MusicMatch)apps with 2k and XP

all failed to play or rip a SACD

This is not good news - especially as there are no warning stickers on the discs

Hmmm.
On 2k it read the discs with no problem and I was able to rip also.

On XP it couldn't even recognize anything in the drive.

When u got it to work on 2K.... did you have error correction turned on?

I could rip with NO error correction (v slowly) but with digital secure it rejected the rip after too many errors where found

Yes I ripped with APE (Normal) with Digital Secure. It did it at the usual speed.
