Media Center 11.0.90 Alpha Available
« on: September 24, 2004, 04:47:33 pm »

We're still working on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your feedback on it, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't yet fully support it.  When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your view schemes.  Some plugins still do not work.

We recommend that you use MC10 below, but if you want to use MC 11 while we're building it, PRICES are here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311

If you want a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Media Center 11 is available here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110090.exe  [see price link above]

Recent Changes

11.0.90 (9/24/04)

1. Fixed: Some CD writing failures could cause MC to hang instead of cleanly recover. (may have only affected fast computers)
2. Fixed: CD burning could fail to start on very fast computers.
3. Fixed: Track boundaries could be incorrect when burning an audio CD with cross-fading enabled.
4. Fixed: Library browser doesn't require "Shift" to be depressed during startup to appear.

6. Fixed: Adding new files to the database could be overly slow in some cases.
7. Fixed: Import's exclude previously removed file option changes were not being preserved.
8. NEW: Library Browser shows letters to jump to certain items when showing a large list of items. (click multiple times to cycle)
9. NEW: CD burner has new mode "MP3 CD or DVD" in addition to audio and data CD or DVD. Converts other formats to mp3 before writing to CD.

11.0.89 (9/23/04)

1. Fixed: Library Browser slide-show didn't work properly if all audio files had cover art with the same filename.
2. NEW: Library Browser status line animates on mouse-over to show more information.
3. Changed: Library Browser "Sort by Plays" uses average plays instead of total plays.
4. NEW: Library Browser customizes the status displayed based on the sorting used. (change sorting from "View" button to the right of the tabs)
5. NEW: Library Browser supports forward / back navigation. (mouse buttons, menu, keyboard shortcuts, etc.)
6. NEW: Library Browser adjusts the number of columns based on the available size.
7. Fixed: Custom naming for the display name of the date fields would not be preserved between sessions.
8. Fixed: Media Editor would fail to load decoders and encoders in some cases.
9. NEW: Import and update will not reimport files previously removed from the library. (optional under the 'Advanced' section of the import dialog)

"8. NEW: Library Browser shows letters to jump to certain items when showing a large list of items. (click multiple times to cycle)"

Excellent!   ;D

I also appreciate that while it brings you to the letter you click in the library, it does Not limit the display to only that letter. Good move, much easier and Faster!.

The library browser is really evolving nicely. I like it!

I think this has been touched on before but importing media under v11 seems very slow. I've tried disabling the various import options etc but nothing seems to make any difference. Any suggestions?

Finally, I'm a huge fan of the split views feature in v11. Any chance of including a setting which preserves the view layout on exit though? It's anoying to have to organise the split view each time you restart the app.

I'm generally loving the improvements though.

This is looking pretty good to me. However as Matt has been saying in every release for a while:

Some plugins still do not work.

Are you going to work further on this or should we start bugging the 3rd party plugin developers to support some changes?

For me as I use headphones a lot, I'm missing using the 4front Headphone plugin. Most of the other DSP plugins I had previously used don't work either.

Just loaded 090 for the first time today.

Album Replay Gain looks to be GREAT.

I like letting MC truncate LONG strings in the grid, but it should NEVER truncate the TRACK NUMBER field.  I see 9 as "9" and 10 as "1" because of this.

Bug: Left-clicking on the text "Right-click for more options" in the Action window -> File properties -> Image disables ability to actually get a menu on right-click.

I tried burning an album I have in flac format to a disc and it did not work (got 1kb tracks).  I tried it twice:  once with decode direct to disc enabled, and once with it disabled.  Both times I got the same result.

These tracks play in MC and Nero is able to burn them without any problems.

When I play a song all the way through and the next track starts playing, if I click next the second song gets a play count added even though it only played for maybe 10 seconds.

I haven't seen this happen if I just start to play a song and then go to the next song. It works as usual (half-way it counts it, right?)

I'm getting too, in addition prot faults at random times, restoring the window, double-clicking a track when annother is playing...

Seems to happen most often when the currently playing track is a 24/96 WAV, but it happens when playing APEs too.

Still the same Problem:

MC 11 does not display Text in Visualization, Oscilloscope seems to be also broken. Spectrum Analysis seems to be ok. The Problem exist in all MC 11 Versions. The same Vis runs fine in MC 10.
The Problem exists on 3 Computers( 2 PC, 1Laptop), all W2K

Exportin HTML playlist is really NOT good in 11.0.81 (w2k).

I exported my mp3 collection of 17698 tracks to a HTML playlist with only visible fields. The html-file was almost 17 MB !! Imagine browsing that collection...

Because my computer nearly crashed when I tried to modify the huge html-file in my html-editor, I decided to do a test: How about cleaning up the html a little bit. By just removing the unneccessary <FONT SIZE="2" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial"> and </FONT> tags from each cell in the huge table my smaller test list of 39KB was reduced to 14,1KB in file size. Something to think about in larger collections.

bug in the preset "calendar" view scheme:

Importing my pictures I get date field automatically fulfilled as "26/09/2004 15:06" (as an example). In result, MC calculates day field = 26, month field = 9 and year field = 2004. That is ok.

I can display pictures selecting a year and/or a day in the calendar view scheme but I cannot select any month since in this case MC displays none picture.

I think it get confuse between numeric representation of month (1, 2,...) and alphanumeric representation of months (january, february,...).

Try the MC XML Export plugin along with the presets if you want full control over your HTML.  You can also take a look at the XAlbum preset (http://pages.sbcglobal.net/scottraymond/Presets.htm) which you can use server-side to handle large files.

Is the Audioscrobbler plugin now included with the install of MC11??

I know for a fact I uninstalled it since it keeps crashing MC at about 1/2 way through each song, but yet after several crashes low and behold there it is again.  On top of that is was active and I know I did not install OR turn it on.

And yes I know it is due to it not being permitted to reach the internet through my firewall, but that is what I prefer.

So, please do not include this by default in each download, and if you feel (for SOME reason) that you must, make sure it is set to default as inactive.
