MC 11.0.92 crashing often with WMA files
« on: September 30, 2004, 05:48:48 am »

Something has been introduced in 11.0.92 which is causing a lot of crashes.

I've got a library of 2,810 WMA files (of various encoding qualities but most of them VBR High). I can play one song and as soon as I click on any other song, it crashes. It crashes when I click on Library Browser or if I run File, Library, Import Media and re-scan my files.

I went back to build 91, created a fresh Library file, rescanned my collection and there are no problems. Installing build 92 introduces the crashing. I've tried to create a new library file and rescan the same set of WMA files, but it crashes almost instantly.

From the Dr. Watson crash report:
AppName: media center.exe    AppVer: 11.0.92.0    ModName: in_wma.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0    Offset: 0000893e

In all of the WMA files, I have 2 custom fields and I have ticked the option to store the fields in the file tags. Thought this info was relevant given the work on build 92 on WMA file tags?

* Name: Artists, Category: General, Data Type: List, Edit Type: Standard
* Name: Mixed?, Category: General, Data Type: String, Edity Type: Standard

I have 2 PCs which both access the same set of files which are stored on a network file server. MC crashes and exhibits the exact same behaviour on both PCs.

One PC is a Windows Server 2003 - clean install with only LimeWire 4 and MC 11.0.92. It still has WMP 9.

The other PC is WinXP +SP2, WMP 10 and serveral 3rd party apps.

MC config on the WinXP machine:
Media Center Registered 11.0.92 -- C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\

I have experimented a bit by moving about 10 WMA files to my local hard drive and seeing if I could get them into a fresh library file. I couldn't get a single file into the library. MC crashes if I try to import any of one of them.

I've hosted a sample WMA file on my server if it helps debug the problem:
http://azureproperty.com.au/ozmael/mc11092_wma_sample.zip (17Mb).

Yes. I can confirm fixed in build 93. Thanks for such a quick turn around!
