Cover art, visualizations, media server
« on: November 19, 2004, 09:17:20 am »

I've been using MC for quite some time now, haven't explored all functions yet, but I do have some questions especially regarding the latest build.

Cover art - This seems to bug me from time to time, MC loose track of the cover art and doesn't show anything. This includes both cover art inside files and folders (folder.jpg). When I check the file image-info inside MC it refers to a cover art-file inside the data\cover art-directory which doesn't exist. How do I fix this or is there any setting for this I haven't discovered (I know where to specify the general cover art-directory)

Visualizations - Do they work at all in MC11? Well, all seems fine except the viz made in studio. I haven't found a clear answer on the boards about this, maybe it isn't supposed to work yet!?

Media server - Also cover art issue....how do I make it work correctly? Is convert bitrate supposed to work for all files or only wav files? As it is right now it's not converting any files for me on-the-fly. It's a very handy feature to save some bandwidth.

if it points to a file that does not exist then somehow it was deleted

select all files or all files with problems, then use the option to remove the coverart, and rescan "Get cover art from internet", but use the "offline" option in the combo box if you have it in the folder MC should hook them up.

then after that, all ones without cover art do a scan for cover art from the internet.

if you still have no art use my cover art plug-in

Media Server will only convert on-the-fly for TiVo. If you want to convert for Media Center clients, you need MC11 and Library Server.

Thanks for the replies!

KingSparta: I've been using your lyrics plugin for some time, it works really well! Thank you very much for your work, very nice database you've got! I've tried the Cover Art plugin but I'm having trouble fetching the actual cover art - it says "Cover Art found" and that's about it...I've checked the "Save as folder.jpg"-option but I can't find any actual cover art. Maybe just a setting I've missed somewhere?

John Gateley: Thanks for replying! Ok, haven't heard of "Library Server" thought that was refering to "Media Server" gonna take a closer look at that and see if I can figure it out, thanks again!

EDIT: I'm using MC11

Change Your Cover Art Path In MC Then Change It Back That Should Force MC To Save The Cover Art Path To The Registry. Thats Prob The Problem you having with that plug-in.

Ok, I've tried setting and re-setting the cover art-path, exiting and restarting MC and re-running Cover Art Finder. I still can't find any trace of cover art even though the cover art is found: "Cover Art Found..." and it shows up in the recieved list. I've checked the file-folder, Cover Art-folder and file-information.

It really refuses to work, I don't use the XP firewall but ZoneAlarm. I've tried with it enabled and disabled, I've reinstalled the Cover Art Finder with the same result - "Cover Art Found" and received according to the list. But it doesn't show up and I can't find any Cover Art on disk.

Guess I'm just a bit unlucky  :P

I looked into it more it seems MC11 came with alot of registry changes, and there is now no way to write one program and allow it to work on all unless you check for the version of MC you are running.

i am playing with some changes to cover art finder so it will work on A "Fresh Install" of Media Center.

Users who have used MJ or MC9 And MC10 it will work with.

Update: I updated the Cover Art Finder to look for the cover art folder in the Registry for MC11

There seems to be some kind of trouble with spartasoft.com at the moment I get back to you as soon it's up again.

Could the fresh install of MC11 (which I have) also be the problem with the visualizations, I have a faint memory that they used to work with MC11 before I formatted my system and installed MC11 only. I've posted topics about this before but haven't had a single answer of anyone else having trouble with the visualizations, are they working correct in your copy of MC11??

Screenshot of what basically all vis looks like, this is new to me, they've worked fine until this fresh install: Screenshot

As you can see in the screenshot, it's the clean n' tidy II collage, doesn't exactly look perfect...  :-\

it seems the ISP decided to brake something, that is fixed now i guess

I really don't use visuals, i don't see a point in them they just steal resources, now if i droped some acid then maybe.

Just looked, Visuals are working.

They do that sometimes  ;)

The plugin downloaded and installed, works perfect now as far as I can tell, thank you very much for all help!  :D

Regarding the visuals, it seems to be same problem there, I think they are nice to use when you have a party and everyone is curious about what is playing. I just bought WhiteCap (and G-Force), i love that vis! Fullscreen on my 20" in a dim room is pretty effectful.  ;D Otherwise I rarely use visuals...

Just two examples of what the screen may look like:

WhiteCap
G-Force

These static pictures doesn't make WhiteCap and G-Force the justice they deserve, but it's a glimpse at least  ;)

PS. I noticed the jpeg-compression made it loose some details
