Strange MC11 behaviour when selecting/removing cover artwork
« on: December 06, 2004, 03:24:35 pm »

MC11.0.140 stops responding for about 90 seconds almost every time I either select or remove cover art images for one of my music files.

When I select the image file, I get the status message down the bottom "Done Saving Tag Changes" then the hard drive makes scanning noises and MC stops responding. After about 90 seconds MC11 comes back and I can continue using it.

It's like MC is rescanning the drive after every change.

I can change other tag info and it's OK,but when I select/remove an image  things go astray.

To problem doesn't always happen (even when using same music file/images), but I can reproduce it every time by doing the following:

1) Select all the music files for an album that all have a cover art file assigned (mine aren't stored in music file)
2) Tools, Image, Remove Cover Art (select No to delete from disk)
3) Once removal complete click on one of the files, or another album etc.
4) MC now goes off and does a scan and stops responding for 90 seconds.

I have approx 4000 WMA/MP3 files in my library installed on X:, program file are installed on C:

I have no 3rd party plug-ins installed.

Make sure you don't have the cover art directory set to a drive that isn't there.  A CD or DVD drive, for example.

Have checked, cover art directry does exist, although I store all my coverart as folder.jpg in the album directry and this is the image file I am selecting during the process.

Any drives that aren't there?  Removeable drives?  Network drive that isn't available?

Sorry, but I'm really guessing.  It's an odd symptom.

Maybe a virus or insufficient Windows permissions??

Have just re-booted for the 2nd time since I got the problem and now  it seems to have gone!

I HATE computers sometimes!!!

I still get a slight pause after removing the cover art, and changing the focus (maybe 2 seconds) but not a long delay with disc scanning like before.

Oh well I guess 2 reboots are better than one!

Sorry for the false alarm.
