I Plan To Test This New DVD Dual Sided, That Will Also Burn The Label Directly To the Disk, What Also Makes It Nice Is The Drives Are Rather Cheep For What The Will Do. I Plan To Test This Drive Out This Weekend Using MC11 (I Hope) And Let You Know How It Turns Out.

How much are the disks and where do you get them. I looked on Newegg and all they had was a 5 pack for $5. How much are they in bulk?

The discs are special.... they have an extra calibration ring in the center that helps the drive identify the exact positioning of the disc. The discs are still quite expensive compared to regular discs... but are dropping in price all the time.

Oh.... and from what I've seen.... doing a full disc burn of a cd label or picture on these drives can take up to half an hour.

I've had one for a month or so and really like it, much neater than my typical scribble    I bought an HP DVD640e which is the external model, the first one quit burning labels correctly after a couple of weeks so I had to exchange it, other than that no problems.  As Wile E. One pointed out, a full disc label can take 20-30 min, however there is supposed to be a firmware release this month that will cut that time in half.  Simple text labels, Artist/Album currently take 3-5 min.

King, Where did you buy your discs?  So far the best deal I've found was Sam's Club online and after tax and shipping they were $62/100.

I got one of the Ligthscribe drives a few weeks ago and so far I'm pretty unimpressed. The images that it prints are the metallic equivalent of greyscale, and the slow printing speed is maddening. It's hard to imagine this becoming a mainstream item without significant improvements.

On the other hand, I love the look of the Epson line of Rx00 printers, with an integrated tray to print directly on the top of printable CDs/DVDs. The blank disks are also more expensive than conventional blank CDs/DVDs, but not much more (less than Lightscribe disks), and the whole process is much more appealing. The R200 - a perfectly good photo printer - is under a hundred dollars, and the R300 is on sale at Costco today for $109.

I've been using an R300 for a while now.  The results are excellent, even with the cheap compatible cartridges.  The supplied software's poor, so I got Acoustica CD/DVD Label Maker and haven't looked back!

I Got Mine From Gateway, I Had To Call Told The Rep I Could Not Find It On There Web Site, She Went Away For 5 Mins. And Came Back Telling Me All The Makers Of The Lightscribe Disks, I Told Her The "Cheapest".

UPS Just Brought The Drive!!!

I Guess That Over Night Works Sometimes.

The "Lancie" Drive Came With:

1. One Each DVD Utility Disk Ver 6.5 With LightScribe (Easy Media Creator 7, And I Hate Easy Media Creator, Nero Would Have Been Better).
2. One Blank CD-R LightScribe Disk (Verbatim).
3. One Blank DVD+R 16X Disk (Verbatim) (Does Not State LightScribe Compatable).
4. A Small Bag With 4 Screws For Mounting
5. An Audio Cable

I Just Found Out Gateway is sending me the wrong DVD Disks, Even when i told her what i was looking for.

The guy I asked today if it was lightscribe, wanted to sell me another drive, when I told him I wanted the Media.

hard to beleave but gateway sells the drive but not the "LightScribe" Media

A Image Of A LightScribe CD I Created Today, It Took About 29 Mins To Burn the Label (A Bit Long), But It Did A Good Job.

The Background "Thumb Print" Was included with the label program, and i think it went well with "Richard Diamond, Private Detective"

I've had a lightscribe drive for a few months and used it twice.  I'm not at all impressed with the results.  At even the best resolution (which takes forever, as has been noted) you have to have perfect vision to make out any sort of image.  Text is better, but not by that much.

I do not have such a nifty thing, but I read an article about it that said that when you burn the surface twice or even three times, the result is pretty good.
Of course it has to be the same image all the time ;-)

Today I Burned Two Disks Using MC And Not The Burner Program That Came With The Light Scribe Drive.

It Went Well

Then I Burned A Text Only Label, Using The Light Scribe Label Program

1. Inner Sanctum Mysteries Disk 1 Of 2
2. Inner Sanctum Mysteries Disk 2 Of 2

Each Disk Took About 2 1\2 Mins, Not bad since thats what i am going to do with it anyway. just so i don't have a bunch of disks with no lables all over the place.
