Can anyone recommend a remote control?
« on: February 07, 2005, 11:54:44 pm »

Would like to control theater view on the TV with an IR remote. Thought of using a pocketPC with Netremote, but this a bit pricey, so think will go for a standard IR remote -- and ideally one I could also use to control the TV, DVD etc. Would be grateful to hear what other people are using successfully.

One model I've seen is the ATI Remote Wonder. Does this work OK?

Thanks.

The NetRemote solution is more expensive but it's not that expensive in the long run and is *well* worth the effort.  You can get some really good deals on the net on Dell Axims and iPAQs.

ATI Remote wonder works fine for me. You have some default functions built in such as play, stop. for other you can use girder to configure them. It does work two rooms away from the computer.

My vote goes to Universal Remote Control's MX-500.  Using Girder, I taught it everything I ever wanted out of MC11.

I've been quite happy with my Harmony 659. You plug it into your PC via USB, tell it what devices you want to control and it grabs all the configs from its site. It really couldn't be easier. You'll find more info about it elsewhere, but just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.
