Bug(?) Visualization COVER_ART problem
« on: October 21, 2002, 10:39:42 am »

I'm having a performance problem with visualizations
in MJ8.

My visualization shows the album cover using
the "Image" object (with ImageFile: COVER_ART).

When specifying that the image should be painted for
every frame (OnEquation: Always On), MJ wastes a lot
of CPU power painting the same image again and again,
if I however specify anything less than 'Always On' the
COVER_ART image doesn't (always) get updated when a
new song starts playing; if I for instance specify
'Every 3rd Frame' there is about 66% chance that the
COVER_ART image doesn't get updated when a new
song starts, and the old image continues to be used
instead of the new correct one.

It would seem that there's a bug or limitation in MJ that
COVER_ART is only updated if shown in the visualization
at the exact time that a new song starts.

The problem exists in 8.0.388 and all previous 8.0.x
versions I've tried.

Running Windows XP Pro on HP OmniBook 6000
(P3 800MHz) with ATI RAGE Mobility display adapter;
Just painting an image on approx 30% of a 1024x768
screen in 'Highest Quality' 20 times per second uses as
much as 30% of the CPU, so the ability to paint the
image less than for every frame is desirable for me!
