MC 11 Line-in recording problem
« on: March 15, 2005, 08:48:31 am »

Recording sound from line in (a turntable) crashes MC 11

I first tried recording to uncompressed WAV file but also crashed when trying to save as MP3 file.

New directory for artist is created but no file of any sort and MC crashes straight away.

I can't reproduce this problem here. Can you give more specifics to assist in debugging this? Thanks.

Some things to try:
- on the recorder settings page, try a different recording device if there are multiple ones listed
- get the lastest drivers for your sound card
- try ripping a CD, does that work ok?
- list the other settings you are using on the recorder settings page so I can set up the same way for testing
- anything unusual about the album/artist/track naming you are using? Under "file location" what are the output file location and directory and filename rules being used?
- see if the built in windows recorder program works ok with your sound card.

Does it crash immediately, or when you hit the stop button?

I've had this working fine in MC 10 for some time with what I think is similar settings.

- There is only the one recording device
- It looks like I have the latest drivers for the inbuilt soundcard
- ripping a CD works fine
- Other settings:-
   Device - SoundMax Digital Audio
   Recording Source - Line In
Recording Volume - 14% (set through test)
   Wait for sound - Off
   Maximum Track Length - Off
  Split Tracks - Off
For track naming I'm Just using Artist for directory and track no, Name for track.  I've also set up a new C:\TmpMusic directory and pointed everything at this to get around any long filename problems.
The windows recorder works OK.

Some more testing has revealed that I can record to MP3, WMA and uncompressed wave if I set the rip and encode simultaneously option to ON.

If this is set to OFF then MC crashes for all the formats.

The crash for WAV is as soon as recording starts. For MP3 the crash happens when the record stops (and teh encoding should start)

I hope this helps.

Please let me know if there is anything else you need to know.
