I've finally got around to investing some time in smartlist and they're great!
However, I would really like to be able to assign a keyboard shortcut to a Smartlist. Why? well i have a Sony Ericsson phone and a bluetooth dongle, before i get out of bed in the morning i can open MC, select random, change the zone, press play, adjust the volume and skip tracks. What i can't do is have any selection over what is played. So being able to assign Keyboard shortcuts to Smarlists would be great. Actually, being able to edit all of MC's shortcuts would be very useful, For me, Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2, etc would be much more relevant to Genres or Albums than to the views, generally when i want to change a view it means i'm already in front of the monitor looking at it so a view change is only a click away anyway.
And before anyone says it, yes, i know i could do this with girder and a remote control bought for 5 shillings happenny, but that's not the point. The HID (human interface device) protocol is excellent and could be used for almost anything, this is just one use. Besides, i can't phone my remote to track it down...
