H2 girder-control the MC web radio?
« on: April 24, 2005, 01:31:37 am »

I'd like to be able to change the web radio stations in MC through NetRemote/girder. There is nothing in the current MC gml file. Any thoughts how I could do that?

The only way I've been able to handle it is to make a playlist per radio station in MC and use Girder to play the chosen playlist.

Its a while since I set them up - but I think it only works for certain streaming formats

Well the problem that I have with that is that I don't know how to find out about the URL of the stream. I discovered a good MC/NetRemote thread (http://www.promixis.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8172&highlight=web+radio but it requires the url of the radio stream. How did you do it? I'd really like to use MC for radio listening. Thanks!

A number of streaming sources seem to go to an awful lot of trouble to hide the URL from you.  This makes them very difficult to use from anywhere other than a web page browser.  It seems they're doing this to make sure they promote the advertising pages and pop-ups along with the stream.  This sucks but they think they can force us to put up with it.  Content's king but if you torment the users we'll jump ship the instant anyone else makes content.  Brand loyalty is not worth destroying and yet that's what they do time and time again...

Sometimes I find it's necessary to go digging into the browser's history list to see what URLs were used.  And in some extreme cases I've even resorted to using a proxy server and looking at it's logs as well.

I remember now

play a station in MC
go to playing now and add the "track" to a playlist called Radio
rename the album to "the name of the station" or give it a genre of "radio"
create a view with genre=radio
Netremote can obviously then show a GAC scheme listing the radio stations

work 4u?
