MC 11.0.263--Can't install FLAC encoder
« on: May 10, 2005, 06:11:30 pm »

I'm probably missing something here, but the FLAC" input" installed and registered just fine, however the "encoder" pluggin downloads and intalls "758.mjp" yet nothing ever shows up as a registered plugin.  What gives?

Encoder interface changed inside MC about version 11.201.  I'm working on updating the plugin but it's not complete yet.

In the mean time, use the external plugin.

thnx for the update scthom, nice to hear you're still plugin' ;) away at it.

I did predict threads like this would occur if the plugin wasn't pulled from the d'load pages. Most people will just assume it's a bug and give a false impression of v11.

They'll be like "whoa, cool new app, and look, there's even a flac plugin, wow", but it won't and they'll walk. I s'pose there's also the possibility of hooking a new user who's looking for flac handling, but is already hooked on MC by the time they realise the thing they looked for first doesn't actually work, but I think leaving it there as a potential trap would be "a little mischievious", to put it mildly ;)

I agree.  But in fact the encoder plugins DID work with 11.  Until version 201 that is, when they (suddenly?) changed the interface.

I can understand wanting to make progress, but after seeing the (very minor) differences in effect, I think it would have been easier to leave well enough alone.  Or at least use either interface.  It completely bugged out the existing encoder plugins for essentially not much improved performance.  [Basically, MC keeps track of the registry and settings instead of the plugin doing it itself.]

Fortunately, I've now been able to work through most of the problems and am getting very close on the FLAC encoder plugin that does work!
