Burning cd's?
« on: May 20, 2005, 04:39:54 pm »

Hi quick question.. I ripped all my cd's to ape format, and I'm wondering what the best format to convert them to, to burn them back to cd.. I want to be able to get as many songs on a cd as I can.DOES NOT have to be good quality, because it's just for car cd player for a road trip.. is there a compressed format i can convert my songs to to put on a cd that will work in any home cd player? Thanks and hope to hear back soon.

A quick A:

Can your car player play MP3 files? Otherwise you are stuck with normal Audio CDs.
The same is true with any home CD player.

I would use MP3, "Quality (VBR encoding): Normal" with Fast mode  (~130-180 kbps, depends on source)

If it you need smaller files MP3, "Bitrate (ABR encoding): 128 kbps" would be a good choise.

Edit

These are for MC11, the options are different in MC10.

Yes, a 700 MB CD-R/W can hold 80 minutes of music. There is no way to compress it.

You must burn a data CD for compressed formats and your player must support it.

You could change your car player to an MP3 model. They are not expensive anymore.

If that is not possible, you could just burn several audio CDs and buy a soft CD case for the plain discs. Without the jewel boxes you can fit many CDs to a small space. Your original CDs will be safe at home and you'll have an advantage of having your own "best of" CDs that are filled up to the 80 minutes limit.
