Behaviour when in CD Drive - (for Play)
« on: June 20, 2005, 07:05:45 am »

MC 11.0296
Why is it that even though there is no cd in my drive MC will play the last song in Playing Now when i press play? Is this intended?

Surely when there is no cd in the drive the play button should not be active?

The last played track in Playing Now is always active until the playback is restarted with a different track. The location of the file (HD/CD/removable) does not change that.

I tried what you explained. MC couldn't play the track because I had removed the media. Instead MC asked what I liked to do: try again or cancel. I could have inserted the CD and answered yes. AFAIK that is the intended behavior. When you send files from the CD database to Playing Now and start playback MC uses the system for asking you to insert the needed CD.

Do you really mean that the track played without a CD? If yes, then your system must have some kind of special cache memory that makes it possible.

It of course tells me there is no cd in the drive but it proceeds to play the last played (and highlighted) song in the media library, which is also the only track in playing now. So, no it's not caching a cd track, it's instead playing a completely different mp3 from the library (the last one to be played prior to pressing play on either of my cd drives).
I just find the behaviour unusual, especially when it says "there is no cd in the drive", not that it's a huge problem of course.

Under options/behaviour I have Play Button: Play Visible files (selected) selected, therefore I assumed that would only apply to selected files that are currently visible?

I see. That makes a difference. I have always used "Play Playing Now".

I guess it happens because the "Play Visible Files (selected)" function actually makes two things. First, it replaces the current playing now list with the selected visible files. Then it starts playback. If there are no selected visible files the Playing Now list doesn't change first.
