MC hangs on install again - at the point of installing plugins.

I have to use the task manager to exit MediaCenter 110305.exe and package installer.

When I've done that, MC opens and appears to run normally. The version number is updated.

Has it fully installed or not?

The Audible content problems remain -- they may have even gotten worse with this build.  I can no longer reliably play audible content in MC11 like I could with MC10 due to various problems mentioned below, the worst of which is lockups on various titles when trying to navigate to a different location in the track.  The same file plays fine with MC10.

The specific issues are:

1)  When jumping to a different point in a title, there is a several second delay before the new location starts playing.  The previous section continues to play during this time, and sometimes it will jump to another section of the title before it jumps to the "actual" point you placed the timeline indicator.  In MC10, the same track does not have this problem -- when you jump to a new point in the timeline, it immediately starts playing at this new location.

Note that I'm using the same playback settings that I use with MC10 (i.e. "gapless" and "immediate.")  Mp3's behave normally when jumping to different sections of the tracks.

2)  When returning to a track that that you preiously stopped listenning to at some point (i.e. when you utilize the bookmark capability of the aa file), you hear several seconds from the beginning of the title before the audio jumps to the bookmarked spot.  It does this each time you return to the title.  With MC10, the title immediately starts playing for the point you left off when you return to it.

3)  When jumping to later points in certain tracks, some aa files simply stop playing.  I can't seem to find a pattern to why/when this happens, but this NEVER happens with MC10 (which I've been using with the same aa files for a couple years now.

Is there any estimation as to when these issue may be looked into?  I'm going to have to revert to MC10 for the time being since I listen to a lot of audible content.

Thanks for any information on this,

Larry

I've been testing Media Center !! for the last few weeks or so and I must say, I'm impressed, very impressed.  I last tried MC out at version 9 but it didn't meet my needs at that time.  Now it does that and more!

However, I have discovered a few issues that I hope can be addessed:
1) When I change visualisations in Theater View using Controls>Visualisations, the setting does not "stick".  That is, when I use Controls>Visualisations in Theater View and change the current visualisation, then proceed to use F11 to switch between Theater View and Fullscreen, the visualisation switches back to what it was before.  However, in windowed mode, if I use Player>Display Options>Visualisations to change the visualisations, the change does survive the F11 cycling.  Can this be fixed such that visualistion changes in Theater View "stick"?

2) The behaviour of the "Play" option at the Tracks level in Theater View is somewhat odd.  For example, suppose I have a view scheme consisting of Artist/Album.  If I select a particular album and choose "Open", I am presented with a list of tracks in that album.  If I select a particular track and choose "Play" all Tracks from the album are added to Playing Now.  This is counterintuitive.  I would have expected only my selected track would have been added and played.  If I had wanted the complete album to be added I would have chosen "Play" at the Album level instead of at the Tracks level.  Am I wrong in my interpretation?  If not can this be addressed in a future build?

3)  I installed the software as administrator and ran it while in administrator mode.  I then logged out and logged back in as a restricted user to test how MC behaved with restricted privileges.  When I tried to run it, it informed me that my 30 day trial period had expired.  Does the 30 day trial period not allow the software to be run by a restricted user?

I can confirm that behavior but I think it may be a design oversight rather than a bug.

The Behavior of the Play button can be changed: Tools>Options>General>Behavior.

LisaRCT,

It should close after giving you the message "After the reset of all detected devices, the Options dialogue will close. Continue?"

Where can we make suggestions for additions to the Media Center Help Documentation?  I would like to forward the following post:

To the documentation people to consider.

Thanks. ?

The Behavior of the Play button can be changed: Tools>Options>General>Behavior.

I have played with all of the behaviour settings and alas, no matter what I try, selecting the "Play" option in Theater View always plays all the tracks in the current album as described in my previous post.  I surmise that these settings only apply to the Play button in the windowed interface and not to the Play option in Theater View.  Thus my problem is still not solved.

Changing or adding external cover art links in the database unnecessarily changes the disk files even if the Image File field is not specified to be written to the physical file tags.

I added and updated a lot of cover art files. Now I suddenly have 40 GB of audio files that have changed their last modified dates. I need to redo all backups because I have no way to separate the files that have real changes.

Still getting "Incomplete Shutdown" in .305 after termination by Windows logoff/shutdown. No 3rd party plug-ins. Stop mode. No activity in MC at logoff/shutdown. Same since .303.

Thanks.

Incomplete shut down:
same here, i go back to 11.297.

All in all MC seems to become more instable since 11.295 with hanging in the tracks with stuttering, the shut down problem and other little things.

I have noticed that when I change the volume from system volume to internal volume that the volume control disappears on the video display.  Is this a bug, or expected behavior?

Using 11.0.305 now but noticed this behavior for a while now: When you add files to Now Playing with right-click in Explorer -> Media Center -> Play/Add to Playing Now (both those options), it queues all the tracks twice. :-X  For instance, there's 20 mp3's in that dir, it queues tracks 1-20 then 1-20 again right below the first set.  I can't think of any options that would intentionally allow you to "add tracks to Playing Now 2x."  Bug, right?

I also noticed when upgrading to 11.0.305 that it kept all my selected options from the prior version I had installed except the shell integration.  Not sure if that was by design or not to not return that setting back to how it was before upgrading..

This might be a silly question, but why in my MC 11.0.297 version fail to see any updates when I goto 'Help->Check for Updates' if the latest version is 11.0.305?

While MC is in beta, you have to manually update to the next build. The auto-update isn't turned on until MC is released, which was build 304 or 305. You're still running 297.

There seems to be a serious renaming bug. MC rewrites all file tags instead of just changing the filenames. The files will be completely rewritten (= read the file > write to a temporally file > replace the original file) in those cases when the physical tags are in front of the files and no adequate padding is present in the used tag format. More details are here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=28672.0

There are some other issues with this too.
I do not tag with MC.
I have changed Rating to not write to the file tag.

I rated some files along the way, removed ratings from some others.

Many files now have the comment Tool Version and several have multiple comments tags from different MC 11 builds.

The extra comment entries and writing the rating into the tags are why I do not tag with MC. And when I configure it not to write to tags, I really want it to honor the request.

Media center very often does hang itself up, it runs no Plugins in the background and played only mp3
