APE Fades

Howdie.
I'm currently on version 305.
Over the last few weeks i've noticed when
moving between ape files the fading is very slow > +10 secs
however moving between mp3's is fine.
During these 10 secs MC is untouchable and doesn't redraw, and also brings
processor usage up to 100% meaning other apps grind to a halt.
After this started I've actually gone from 2k to XP as a new
MS windows update bu**red my machine up.  This was a clean installation
with a clean installation of 305.
I generally move up every 5 versions so... haven't downloaded 309 yet...
just curious if anyone else is having similar issues..

Athlon 1700 xp. 512, Santa Cruz, Big Disk...
3.5k's of tracks
Default 4sec agressive fade

Make sure your files aren't on a PIO drive or a slow wireless connection.

Also, it helps if you don't use 'Extra High' compression as it's a lot slower for not a lot of gain.  This isn't much of an issue with modern computers though.
