Import Problem
« on: July 19, 2005, 12:18:51 pm »

I noticed Some Files Were Not In My Library So I Tried To Import All Files.

The Missing Files Did Not Import.

I Directed MC To the Folder, Result They Did Not Import.

Note: "[X] Exclued File Previously Excluded" Was Unchecked

I Then Cleared The Complete Library, And Did A Fresh Import Of All Files 95,000+ Files

Only Then Was The Files Imported.

Edit:

I Am Guessing That At One Point The Files Fell Out Of The Library, And If A Marker Is Used In The Database To "Exclued File Previously Excluded" Files, Something May Be Broken.

This Happend Not Only To That Folder But A Few Others.
All File Types Were Checked

Also I Guess It Is Possible Something Happen To The Database, But I Find That A Bit Remote.

Looking thru the folders i found some of them still did not import here is a sample of two of them, So i looked at what i could do to get them into MC step by step.

The Folders

\Whistler\
\Whistler, The\

"Whistler" Imported
"Whistler, The" Did not Import

I Went Into MC Changed The Artist Name From "Whistler" To "Whistler, the"

Renamed From Properties, The 3 Files That Were In The Folder \Whistler\ Went To The Folder \Whistler, The\"

MC11 Did Not Remove \Whistler\ , MC Copied The Files To \Whistler, The\ But did not remove the files

Maybe because the Artist Field Was Renamed "Whistler, the" And Not "Whistler, The"

Imported Folder "\Whistler, The\" It Still Did Not Import The 505 MP3 Files That Is In The Folder.

I Renamed The Folder To "\Whistler The\"

Imported Folder "\Whistler The\" this time the files imported

I Then Looked At "\Weird Circle\" It Had 13 Files and they all imported

I Then Looked At "\Weird Circle, The\" It Had 132 Files and none of them imported

I did the same exact steps as i did for "Whistler, the" with the same results

My Conclusion:

There May Be A Problem With "," in simular file names

Also

When MC is moving files using the rename, MC maynot be deleteing the folders and or moving the files properly if the case in the folder is not the same as lets say the artist name.

So this "Case" Problem may also have something to Do with The "Delete Folder" problem?

Note I Use The Artist Name As A Field For "Series Name"

I found Another Folder

"\Cbc 'The Mystery Project'\" (Imported) (6 Files)
"\Cbc the Mystery Project - _The Old Guy_\" (Did Not Import) (5 Files)
"\Cbc the Mystery Project - The Old Guy\" (Did Not Import) (1 File)

This Time I Moved All The Files To: "\Cbc 'The Mystery Project'\"

Manualy Removed Folders:

"\Cbc the Mystery Project - _The Old Guy_\"
"\Cbc the Mystery Project - The Old Guy\"

Then Imported Folder: "\Cbc 'The Mystery Project'\"

Now All 12 Files Imported where there was only 6 before

Something Weird I Found, That Contradicts The Above, Because it imported Part of the files in that folder.

"\Creaking Door\"
"\Creaking Door, the\"

"\Creaking Door\" (Imported All Files, 1 File)
"\Creaking Door, the\" (Imported 11 Out Of 42 Files)

Copied

"\Creaking Door\" To "\Creaking Door, the\"

Deleted: "\Creaking Door\"

Imported "\Creaking Door, the\"

MC Fixed The Broken Link Of The Now Moved File

Renamed "\Creaking Door, the\" To "\Creaking Door the\"

This Time All 43 Files Imported.

Looking For A Treatment
I could use one myself.

What can you conclude from your tests?  Is the comma in the directory name a factor?  We've seen a problem or two where Microsoft dev tools would allow changes to names that other Microsoft programs (OS) didn't like.

I just got done installing new plugs on the wall ($120) I Had a fire hazard for the last 20 years

Well Before i made any changes to the folder (maybe date of file and or folder is a factor) it did not import

once i made a change to the folder name it allowed for a import.

Now I Am Going To

Clear All Files In The Library And Then close MC, Load It, And Import all files and folders again.

Well see what folders do not import this time, i have a bunch that do not import without help

And then i am going to take my wife out to dinner at logans road house (New York Strip Salad), I just love the salad at logans.

I did go to Applebee's and bought some Salad bowls so we can have salad at home. The Manager sold them to me for $20. I figured he pocketed the money. that was his first request for someone wanting to buy Salad bowls. It is nice it have a huge salad bowl.
