Can I disable automatic playlists
« on: October 12, 2005, 01:24:07 pm »

Is it possible to suppress the creation of date and time playlists.  I couldn't find anything in Options.

As an alternative, is there a plug-in to automatically delete them periodically?

In Media Center it's fine since these lists are grouped under single parent. However, I use Cinemar MusicLobby as my primary front-end on touchscreens and MusicLobby lists all the Playlist together in one flat list (no hierarchy).  I have to scroll through a page or two of automatic playlists before I get to my named lists.

Do you mean that you must scroll through the displayed content of each of the 3 automatic lists ("a page or two")?  If so, you can edit the properties so that each list is limited to, say 1 item.  I did this so that "top hits" now displays 9999 items.  I could change this to 1 if I only wanted to remember my favorite song.  The parameters are at the top, just waiting to be edited, if that is your goal.

It doesn't show the contents of the lists, just the names of the lists.  Each time I start a playlist, MC creates a playlist in the group "Recent Playing Now's" with the date and time as the name.  It is these date and time playlists that I don't want to see since they appear first in the alphabetically-sorted list in Music Lobby.

Yesterday I deleted the "Recent Playing Now's" group entirely and it hasn't come back.  So I think I've fixed my problem.

Well, the "Recent Playing Now's" group came back on it's own (after a restart maybe), so I guess I'll have to manually delete it periodically.

If anyone knows how to turn this feature off, please let me know.

Which version of MC are you using?  10 or 11?  In 11 I don't think there is one of the "Recent Playing Now's" Playlist Groups.  I kind of wish there was...  But who knows, maybe I deleted mine somehow and don't know how to get it back.

If it's on 11, you should be able to get rid of MOST of them.  I still wouldn't actually DO that though...

You could also just put all of your named playlists into a group with a name that "Alphabetizes" higher than any of the Autoplaylists that annoy you.  That way, you'd still be able to use the Autoplaylist function.  You may not realize it but you can make your own "groups" of playlists (not a playlist, but a grouping that "owns" a couple of children playlists in the tree -- just like a folder) such as "Auto Smartlists".  Simply right click on the Parent "Playlists" item in the tree (or one of the subgroups) where you'd like it to appear, right-click, and choose "Add Playlist Group".  Then give it a name like "- My Playlists" or anything that would alphabetize "higher" than anything else in there.  Put all your Playlists (you can drag and drop old ones from other places in the tree) into your new "folder" of playlists and they should sort above everything else in your MusicLobby app.

I'm using 11, so the Recent Playing Now's group feature is definitely included.

I did actually try to create groups, but found that MusicLobby doesn't recognize them as actually justs lists the group names as if they were discrete lists.  Also, as a result of my rearranging, I learned that MusicLobby doesn't actually sort them alphabetically at all, the list seems to be randomly sorted.  It was pure coincidence, I guess, that they seemed to be sorted before.

Anyway, after scanning the Cinemar message board and reading others' complaints about the random sorting and flat listing, I found the workaround:  Create Viewschemes that map to the playlists (or in lieu of them.  This lets you better manage the hierarchy and presentation.  So I'm going to give this a try.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Dang!   >:(  Now I want mine back.  Yours are automatically regenerating?

Does anyone know how to get the "Recent Playing Now's" Playlist Group to come back if it somehow disappeared?  I certainly never intended to delete it, and I've just assumed all along that it was a feature that was removed in MC11.

I can't really "afford" to create an all-new library (which didn't appear to work anyway because when I created a new "fresh" library in the library manager it didn't contain any of the default playlists or view schemes anyway).

Hmmmm....

Right click on Media in the tree and choose Reset All View Schemes to Default.

Warning:  that's what you will get.

Ooh!  I can't do that.  Any other way?  (Including manually hacking the Library files?)
