Record sound crashes
« on: October 01, 2002, 04:56:54 am »

I am trying to record from an RME hammerfall (professional) soundcard's spdif in. Mixer xhosen as input (there are no line in ports)

I can record from that input with other apps (e.g. goldwave), but mj crashes with the  message below. Trying auto volume, mj detects no sound.

To rule out an encoding problem, try recording with the encoder set at "uncompressed wave" and see if you get the same error.

Solved the problem by taking the mp3 decoding down from 192 to 128k.

Thanks for your help John, much appreciated.

Glad it's working for you. To help us investigate the problem of crashing at high bit-rates, could you post your system info here? You can get this on the MJ help menu.
Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I can't seem to replicate the problem here. Did it crash right away or some time into the recording process? If it didn't crash right away, how long did it record before crashing?
I'm using Lame at 192Kbps.
Plenty of free disk space?
You could try downloading the latest version of the Lame encoder if yours is older (Settings / Plug-in manager / download plug-ins).

After many trials and tribulations, it is working, I installed lame 3.91, which I assume takes over as the default mp3 encoder (lame.exe).

P.S. I love the software, it does things I hadn't even thought of with real player.
