Media Center 11.1.47 Alpha
« on: October 31, 2005, 05:45:55 pm »

  • This is a very early alpha of 11.1.
  • There aren't a lot of new features in it yet.
  • It will work with the same MC11 license that 11.0 uses.
  • As always, use at your own risk, and don't make it your first download of MC.

As always, please post ONLY BUGS here -- anything requiring discussion should go in a new thread.  Posts may be deleted or moved.

Media Center 11.1 ALPHA is now available.  PRICES for MC11.0 and 11.1 are here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311

The public release version of Media Center 11.0 is available here:
http://www.jrmediacenter.com/download.html (recommended for new users)

This latest build of MC11.1 ALPHA is here:
http://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter111047.exe

MC 11.1.47 (10/31/05)

1. Fixed: When resetting handheld devices, previously ignored devices would not always properly show up again.
2. Fixed: While Analyzing Audio, a view refresh could cause the dialog to be cleared.
3. Changed: Removed non-working "Recently Imported" smartlist presets. (all date searches now search actual date instead of elapsed time)
4. Changed: "Nero Fast CD-Burning Plug-in" could cause MC to hang. (plugin doesn't properly support multi-threaded access)
5. Fixed: Minimize button is DSP studio would minimize to an unskinned window.
6. Fixed: MC could use the wrong plugin for some older iRiver devices, causing them to fail to work.
7. Changed: Playlists can now be sorted in custom ways instead of always by sequence number.
8. NEW: File analysis before a handheld transfer no longer blocks the main thread if "Transfer" is pressed before it has finished. (now works in the background)
9. Changed: Transcoding wasn't working for UPnP Server and TiVo Server.
10. Changed: Dropping files on a handheld while it's working queues the files and automatically transfers them after the current upload finishes.
11. Changed: Default Podcast download directory is now My Music/Podcast.   This directory is created only when needed.
12. Changed: Podcast Feeds are now much more tolerant of large and/or poorly formed XML feeds, and feeds with some bad episodes.

MC 11.1.46 (10/29/05)

1. Fixed: User created devices (that point to a folder or network path) were converting all files when "convert if necessary" was selected.
2. Changed: Tuned the overall progress algorithm for handheld transfers to give more realistic weights to each step, improving the accuracy of the "x minutes left" prediction.
3. Changed: Device names displayed by MC will always be unique, so two iPods, etc. won't be as confusing.
4. Changed: All handheld devices can be manually renamed by the user. (right-click in tree and pick "Edit Selected Item" (F2))
5. Fixed: Deleting a virtual device or resetting all devices while the device Action Window page was open could cause a crash.
6. Changed: Devices can no longer be deleted while they are working or uploading.
7. Changed: Any device (not just a virtual device) can be deleted in the "Drives & Devices" tree. (use "Reset All Devices" in options to let MC refind all devices)
8. Fixed: Image playback was not working properly for local files.
9. Fixed: When synching data back from an iPod, the ratings would not always properly synchronize.

MC 11.1.45 (10/28/05)

1. Fixed: When doing manual transfers (not a sync), the same playlist could get created multiple times on a WMDM device.
2. Fixed: Views were not sorting their files. (introduced in build 44)
3. Fixed: Devices could show as "Removable Device" instead of a more friendly name.
4. Fixed: Editing a Podcast feed could cause a crash.

MC 11.1.44 (10/27/05)

1. Changed: Improved album support on portable media center style handhelds. (works for more players, artist name shows up, etc.)
2. Fixed: Network Downloads with unknown lengths were returning an incorrect length value (affects library server with conversion turned on).
3. Fixed: Network Downloads would not seek (affects at least APE playback via library server).
4. Fixed: Network Downloads were not cancelling properly.
5. Fixed: On some systems, Media Center would fail to fully shutdown, leaving a stagnant process in the process list.
6. Changed: After synching data back from an iPod, the upload queue will rerun any smartlists to properly reflect the file changes.
7. Changed: Renamed "Add Virtual Device" to "Add Device".
8. Changed: Reworked CD and devices root tree right-click menu.
9. Fixed: Virtual devices pointing to hard disk paths (on a network, laptop, etc.) were not working properly.
10. Fixed: In rare cases, starting a handheld upload with parallel conversion running could cause one file to fail.
11. Fixed: Album art would not be properly transferred to some WMDM devices -- especially with conversion enabled.
12. NEW: Added preliminary Podcast system.

MC 11.1.43 (10/26/05)

1. Fixed: Disconnecting a handheld during an upload would not be gracefully handled in some cases.
2. Optimized: Improved performance when connecting a WMDM device.
3. Optimized: Improved performance when doing iPod uploads.
4. Optimized: Increased parallelism when doing uploads with a mixture of conversion and no-conversion to keep all the pipelines full.
5. Fixed: Playback could skip under high system loads.
6. Changed: Improved handling of WMDM handheld players that don't support meta data.
7. Fixed: The play / pause button on the top fullscreen bar would use the wrong image.
8. Changed: Removed the dead area around the volume and position sliders on the fullscreen bars so they can be used when the mouse is at the very edge of the screen.
9. Changed: Image slideshow only uses background thread image loading for internet files.

I can still see these non-working presets (e.g. 'Listened to today').

Anyway, I understand the move, but how can we get now a smartlist to display, say, songs that have been played in the last week. I've been toying with the [last played] field and couldn't figure it out.

"listened to today" still works because it uses [last played], and as far as I can tell, it still uses the elapsed time system.

The search bar wizard still has "Imported today" in its "presets" section, and it's the old format that doesn't work.

I need to sleep, but I'm guessing we're going to have to use expressions to form [date imported] searches over set time periods. "IsRange(...)" springs to mind, but is there a solution for "count back 28 days from today" .... ?

Nothing springs to mind without reading up, which I'll go do now...

nope. It's broken : [last played]=<=1440 only gives me files that have never been played.
Actually, all my smartlists that use [last played] are broken and I assume it's because it's not the elapsed time system anymore.

just a reminder that this is still a problem...
MC11.1 - Upgrade installer
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=29700.msg204594#msg204594

this build is also repeatedly increasing its window size while maximised in such a way that the status bar is falling behind the default windows xp taskbar. a restore/maximises fixes it, but not for long.

I need to be careful 'cause you're reeling me in and I'm not really ready for full-on beta testing right now :)

lOth, I'm not sure. I'm using a very small library on an old test machine, it *appears* to work there. If you've not done so already, I'll open a thread to talk about this stuff.

PodCasting:

If you delete a media file in windows, MC will complain the file is missing when you attempt to play it, MC should attempt to download the media file again and not complain the file is missing.

New Build Same Problems

scratch that.  i have the newest firmware available (1.20.08) and MC still has the same wierd memory overloading/freezing behavior as always.  i have tried reinstalling my drivers, tried reinstalling this version of mc, etc.

i dont know what im doing wrong, but i have a strong suspicion the factor here happens to be winxp x64.  hmm well i'll keep on trying.  thanks for the help.

I just tried the sync with 11.1.44 and am still getting just the single "Unkown Album"...

Erase everything.  Then do the sync again.

It should build .alb files with the necessary information in the folders for each album.

-------------------

I originally posted the problem on 11.1.44 and just got back to try this on 11.1.47:

The albums now appear, but

1) Their names are all in the format of "Genuis Loves company.alb" when they are displayed on the PMC screen

2) None of them have cover art, all started with cover art on the PC

3) It appears that the tracks end up in the order that they were transferred which is not necessarily the original order as the conversion process may finish on a short track before a preceding longer track.

4) After transferring music, if I unplug the PMC from the USB connection, MC11 exits with an "illegal operation"

It looks like it's working to analyze all the files on the device.  It has to do this the first time it sees a device, and it could take a while if you have a lot of files.  What if you wait it out?

If it doesn't look like it'll finish, maybe send a full log to matt @ jriver.com after it's been stuck a while.

CD ripping hasn't been working like it should on these 11.1.x builds.  When I first insert a CD, MC asks if I would like to Take No Action, Play, or Rip the CD.  I choose Rip and it says gathering information and updating view, but the view doesn't change.  I still have to manually click the Rip CD button in the action window or click on the drive in the tree.

Also, when I insert another CD after the first, it does not continue ripping.  If I click on 'Click Here to Restart Ripping' I get an error message that says "There are no tracks available to rip.  Please ensure an audio CD is in the drive and that tracks are selected."  I click "OK" but that error keeps popping up until I close the Rip CD Action Window.

A few bugs...

1. I'm listening via a Library Server and can't change to Never Convert. When I do and click OK MC crashes.

2. I think this was reported by others, but just in case, volume leveling doesn't seem to be working at all. Again, this is listening via Library Server.

3. MC seems to cache the song that it downloads via Library Server in Internet Explorer's Temporary Internet Files folder. The problem is that they don't get deleted. Over time they use up a lot of space and I have to delete them manually in IE. This is especially true of you're streaming lossless files...very big.

Hi!

Since alpha 45 or 46 I exeprience "fastforward" problems.
While I am listening to a song and then want to jump to the midle of it MC takes a break of 2-5s bevor it actually seeks to the place I want.

Anyone else having this?
