rip reading speed
« on: September 28, 2002, 06:34:03 am »

MJ (#375) doesn't seem to want to change if I try to change the read speed for ripping ... e.g., from "max" to "1x".  That is, it still reads at 4-5x(?)

What are the best options here for correcting possible read errors???

the reported speed is also counting encoding of the file so it will be lower.

if you just pull a track off the cd in raw form you will see a higher speed per your drive max speed.

I think the question was more around forcing a lower rip speed for a problem CD.

This is a bug that's been hanging around for a while.   No matter what you set the speed drop-down to in "Device Settings" it always reads at max speed.

yes Nero Does Drop Down From Lets Say 24x To 16X if it is having problems, and i did ask about this once months ago and got no responce.

but when MJ errors out i am not sure what the big problem would be for it to step down the speed and try again.  more so with the Generic version since J river should have more control over that. and this would be better that an error message.

Try using "digital secure" ripping mode. It's slower but reads every sector at least twice to ensure a good read. The read speed setting for ripping is something I should be able to fix. Currently it works on some drives (like the ones on my system  ;D) but apparently not on a lot of others.
