What is the meaning of the big red X in the lower left corner of the picture and how do I get rid of the picture and all?   romer

A Big Red X usually means that the file to which MC's Database is pointed
to has been moved, renamed, or deleted.

Pressing the delete key while the file is selected gives you three
options
1. Remove from database
2. Remove from Database and move to recycling bin
3. Remove from database and delete from disk

Since the file is no longer where MC remembers it being  I doubt these options make
much difference however.

Alternatively you can use the Import Media option from the file menu
which will update all links within the database
