iPod Artwork folder size
« on: November 29, 2005, 07:42:33 pm »

Steve,

I also had the problem where the ipod was taking along time to start playing and then it would only play for a few seconds , then freeze, then play etc.

I had done a fresh load with 11.1.65.  About 8550 files. I looked at the Artwork folder size and it was 724mB. (85kB/file) I then rebuilt the artwork db with anapod and the size went to 42mB. (5kB/file) The iPod then played fine.

I installed 11.1.66 and synced about 60 new files. Now the folder size is 45.7mB. Still works fine, but seems like the folder grew alot for only 60 files. (61kB/file)

Hope this helps out.

using .66, transfered 7,497 files (6858 with embedded art, 639 without art):

_artwork folder: 344,503,088 bytes
_ itunesdb : 7,197,444 bytes

extremely long pause between tracks.

After using anapod's rebuild database to fix it:

_artwork folder: 43,701,296 bytes
_itunesdb : 7,253,446 bytes

Pause between tracks is gone, album art is correct, subsequent syncs with MC work fine.

I kept a copy of both the artwork and iTunes folders, both before and after fixing them with anapod. If you would like to have a look at them...

Same problems,

3.57 MB (3,753,584 bytes)

I rename the file, no artwork and it is fast.
