Nomad Jukebox III Crashed MC11
« on: November 20, 2005, 01:41:38 pm »

I just upgraded to MC11.  Now whenever I click on "Handheld Player" in the Action Window I get an error message and MC 11 crashes.  My Nomad III is recongnized, but it crashes the program.

The Nomad worked fine with MC10.  Any suggestions?  It's kind of upsetting to pay for MC11 and not being abe to use it.

Thanks,
Todd

I installed 11.1.59 and the crashing has mostly stopped - still a little flaky though.  It takes forever to transfer files from the computer to the Nomad III - like 10 minutes for a 6 MB song.

What speeds do you get using Windows Media Player?

Is there an MTP/Plays for Sure update from Creative for your device? If so, can you get it?

Steve,

Speeds with WMP is about 3 to 4X faster I'd say. WMP is a good deal slower than Creative MediaSource.  Each song transfers in just a couple of seconds with CMS.

No new firmware (or any other ware) has been develped for the Nomad Jukebox III in quite a while.

Hi Steve.

Any luck with this?  I am assuming that it is the drivers.  The MTP/Play for sure mode is for the Zen with firmware 2.XX, isn't it?  I believe the Nomad Jukebox III has difficulty with these drivers.

Todd,

Upon looking for information for Nomad III on Creative's website this is what I found...

Quote
Please note that the product you have selected has been classified as "End of Service Life. When a Creative product reaches the end of its service life, at a minimum of 3 years from initial shipping date, support for the product will be limited solely to the material available from the Creative Customer Support web site at the time the product has been discontinued."

I presume this means that MTP support will not be coming for this device, but you never know. MC 11.1 utilizes the standard WMDM support for accessing the Nomad III. If speeds are considerably different than WMP it probably is a driver issue.

What version of 11.1 were you using for your test? If not the latest, you could try that to see if it helps.

I have tried the latest version of MC11.  The program is pretty useless when it comes to the Nomad III.  If it doesn't crash, it is incredibly slow.

Oh well.  I guess I'll downgrade to 10.0.

Steve,

I'm not sure what all you guys did, but the latest version (11.1.66) works really well.  I have much better stability (great so far) and transfer speeds have gone from 2.5 minutes per song to about 10 seconds per song on my olf Nomad III.

Thanks very much!
