Media Server Host Crash - quick question:
« on: February 13, 2006, 04:27:44 pm »

Youd think i know how to use this by now, but i just started playing with Media Server. Very cool. Now i can listen to my tunes in the office...just one little thing. I would like to leave both pc's up and running and connected the whole time. its just the host pc keeps coming up with these "C++ run time" errors. when i'm playing music on the host machine.

Am i supposed to disconnect the server when i'm back with the host machine each time? if so does anyone have a neat way of working round this (media scheduler anyone...?)

thanks
pip

What version are you using?  Same on both sides?  Any third party software running with MC?

version 11.1.113
same on both sides

dont think there's any additional software. will check tonight.

its strange i can listen to music at the client side all day with no problems, when i get home there's an error message waiting for me. when i click ok, MC shuts down. if i reopen mc on the host (with media server running) the same error pops up.

i will copy the error information in later tonight i hope. thanks

ok, finally got the chance to copy the message up. it says:

-----------------------

Microsoft Virtual C++ Runtime Library

Buffer Overrun detected!
Program: C:....mediacenter.exe

A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program .. must be terminated.

----------------------

any ideas???

thanks

What kind of content are you playing (as in MP3, APE...) and what are your conversion settings on the client?

all kinds, but i have it set to "convert filesx as necessary". in which case they are converted to mp3 'normal' vbr bitrate. some of the original files are ape, others wma, others mp3 vbr extreme.

Can you try each of the types individually? Find out if it's one kind of file causing the crash?

Thanks,

what i've found is that simply having library server 'on' on the host is sufficient to do this, irrespective of whether the client is active or not.

i dont need to even play any files. i get an average of one error message per hour - so if i leave it running for a day i get 10 messages about.

That helped... some other program is contacting Library Server, sending it invalid data. Library Server should respond better instead of generating that error message. I found one potential problem and fixed it for the next build, see if that helps.
