This has been occurring for a few builds now.

1. I keep re-importing the same FLAC files over and over

2. Ogg, ape, mp3 stored on network drive import as 3 instances of each file one only one exists. I have tried re-importing and clearing the library to start anew with no luck.

3. Of course, the corrupt tags issue. Most recently, I have flacs from a friend that were imported with scrambled tags and I know he tagged them correctly. This was the first time MC "touched" the files and seemed to import them wrong.

I split this off because you seem to be reporting a lot of miscellaneous problems.   Something is obviously not right and I wonder about your hardware and OS.

What OS are you running?

I am using x64 on a DFI 250gb with AMD3700+. Seems very stable except for MC lately.

Jim, I keep filling up my DB Delete playlist upon re-import, and I wonder if this has to do with mapped drives on the network. I deleted that DB Delete playlist and deleted my actual files on the mapped drive. I'm right in assuming this is NOT supposed to happen regardless of any hardware errors; it's an MC problem. Mostly I am posting regarding subtle aesthetic issues and database issues.

I reported failed library restores a while back and that was not a fluke; I know I report a lot of issues but I use MC quite a bit.

Besides, missing tag fields, I am starting to see missing covert art; missing form the tag but still in the folder. This after a full library rebuild.

FLAC tagging issues are up to the 3rd party input plugin.  Hopefully the author can chime in.

I can't reproduce the multiple import problem.  I use a network full of APE files at home and have never seen this.

Make a completely fresh library in "Library Manager" and run import of APE only once.  How many copies of each file?  Then import again.  How many copies then?

Regarding your issues with your friend's FLACs, I've imported plenty of FLACs and have not seen any issues.  You might want to try FLACs from www.etree.org as a control sample, these are legal downloads.  As for having to re-import, I've never heard of this.  Check your settings for file associations, just to be sure.

FWIW, xp64 has not gotten great reviews for stability.  I only know a few people using it and none of them like it.  There are no applications that require xp64, and very few that benefit from it.  Clearly MC is not one of them.  Are you sure all this pain is worth it?

I don't have to re-import, in case you were implying such, but when I do I often find myself re-importing files.

I went with x64 as an experiment it I ended up putting a lot of work into it. It seemed very stable so I continued on and benchmarked and stress tested it. I have a lot of apps installed, my card reader, camer, DAP, and printer all work....so at this point I am not turning back.

I have never owned a more stable system, in terms of apps running concurrently w/o interference, burning, video playback, and audio playback etc.

I had some BSOD's early on due to a bad ethernet driver but I have been really impressed with this system. Simply feels like old XP to me.

I can map network drives to XP pc's on my network but who knows maybe x64 is to blame for some of the re-import problems & multiple file instances of network drive files. I'll try .40 and see.

I see this mainly with Ogg Vorbis Matt, at least after a full re-build of my library. I am excluding files previously removed, and MC is still seeing some 500 files that have been removed which was my DB Delete playlist I believe.

Could this be related to the actual deletion of networked files when I deleted my DB Delete playlist? I am going to backup my library and then import without excluding and post here as to what exactly is showing up as multiple instances and also what is in my DB Delete. A lot of these files being listed 2-3 times are also in my DB Delete for some reason.


What about this:

I have had include network drives included in my Import Media but also have drives mapped. I removed all the networked files and started again using just the mapped drive locations (browse folder) and I still have duplicates.

Any chance MC is still searching both network drives and mapped drives somehow even though I only now have mapped drives and no actual shared netowrk places?

MC is importing the same files 2-3 times with different SEQ numbers for the files. I have some with #53 and the same file again as #2475.

I just disconnected my mapped drive and removed all the offending files from the library.

I have no mapped drive and no networked folder. MC correctly does not import anything when 'include net drives/folders' is selected.

When I remap the drive I import multiple instances of the ogg & mp3 files.

A real long, shot in the dark here:

you're not, by any chance, using a ~mix rule to create your list are you?

~mix can produce some strange results when the search rules do not produce enough tracks to satisfy the number of files requested.
In the situation, ~mix pads the list using duplicates from the search results, and you get to see stuff like so:

Thanks but I am not using a mix rule. I think I may have figured out what was happening. I initially had made shared folders in my netwrok places, later did I realize I could go into the Workgroup and make mapped drives. The Network folders were all deleted but I think there were lingering. So far no doubles or triples; I'v got my fingers crossed.

Maybe this would explain why my DB Delete list was filled up with files that confused MC, and when deleted, instead of deleting extra files, was pointed to the same location as the real files due to the lingering networked folders?

The "Filename" field can tell that. Do the duplicates have exactly identical filenames including the drive letter and folder structure?


BTW, "DB Delete" (or something like that) is a name that marko and I published here when we described our personal smartlists. It is not something that is included in MC by default. If you refer to such a name you should explain what it means.

What you see in a smartlist like "DB Delete" can be quite irrelevant to the fact how many real duplicates the Main Database has.

Please try what Matt suggested and count the amount of duplicates in the root Audio tree branch:

Are they in the Recently Imported playlist? The database itself provides no sequence numbers.

Sorry I posted my DB Delete sting in another thread not his one.


I am not seeing the same behavior in my DB Delete list now; no files in there just things that look like .txt files but have absolutley no tag info in the fields...and I can't delete them. they seem to be the same offending Ogg files that are on the mapped drive, but not all of them. I'll take a screen shot.

I was not seeing dups in the tree and the fields were exactly the same; Filename, Duration, etc.

So far so good after disconnected the mapped drive and starting again.

Yes, the SEQ numbers were in the recently imported. Filenames were the same as I mentioned; files seemed to be literally imported more than once according to the SEq numbers.
