Danish characters in tags
« on: March 13, 2006, 07:25:45 am »

Tags in music files (ripped to FLAC with CD-DA Extractor) that include Danish character are not shown correctly. Strange characters are added to the end when displayed in MC so an almbum is splited up in four og five almbums.

The FLAC plugin may not support Unicode properly.  This plugin is provided by a 3rd party. (not JRiver)

You can rip inside of MC to APE or WMA Lossless and have full lossless + Unicode support.

I just ripped and encoded a file with MC11.1.143 (using Scot Thompson's Flac encoder v 1.5 and decoder v. 1.5) and with Easy CD-DA Extractor 7.5.1 (I don't have a newer of version of this).

Before ripping I replaced the original names with strings that contain all Danish characters that I am aware of. Both files show correct and identical file tags inside MC. Here is a playlist export in XML format that contains all library fields (the first file is ripped with MC):

My OS is US English. I have no idea if a Danish OS can make any difference. I have a Finnish OS in one of my PCs and I could give it a try. In general, those accented characters belong in the standard extended characters set and they should work with any Windows system.

I just tried Yahoo! Music Engine and it shows all tracks with Dansh characters corectly so there must be an issue with MC as I see it. I have an English OS (WinXP) by the way.

Have you installed the latest FLAC plugins?

Here is the decoder plugin change log:

Quote
Version History

Version 1.3.0 -- The first pretty stable version. Works with MC versions 10, 11.0 and 11.1. Has a bug where tags with extended characters don't work right.

Version 1.4.0 -- Fixed the bug from 1.3.0 where the extended characters weren't working (UTF8 encoding). Updated to mjp script installation on 01/14/2006. Works with both 11.0 and 11.1.

Version 1.5.0 -- Updated to use JRReader for compatibility with the Library Server. Only works with MC 11.1. Beta version released Feb 11, 2006.
