Cover art not showing up in Cover Art folder.
« on: March 09, 2006, 09:49:11 pm »

According to the help file on the subject of cover art:

Quote
If you want to also include the cover art in the file itself (when the file format supports this), check “Store images in tags also”. This will increase the file size, but your image will permanently be associated with the file."

The word "also" seems to imply that the if you check the "inside file" option, the art will be placed into the file AND into the specified directory.  This, however, isn't happening.  I have the "inside file" option checked, but the cover art is NOT being copied to my current cover art directory (as defined in Options/File Location.)  Is this a typo in the instructions, or should I be seeing the cover art in the cover art directory even when the "inside file" option is checked?

Thanks,

Larry

Can anyone confirm what the story is on this?  Am I misinterpreting the way the help file is written?

Thanks,

There is more settings that you stated.

You must have "In Specific Folder" and then it will be saved in the cover art folder

that you have right under that named "Path"

then Check Store In tag

if you do not have "In Specific Folder" then the image will not be save to the cover art folder, but it will be saved next to file in what ever form you select.

next to file using folder.jpg maybe the best selection

more so if your using fat32 and have more than 14,000 covers

I do have "In Specific Folder" selected.

I have a path defined, which points to my "Cover Art" folder.

then Check Store In tag

I have this checked.

Cover art is NOT being saved in the folder I've defined for the "specific folder," nor is it being save next to the file.  It is being saved in the tag, but it is not being saved anywhere on the hard drive.

What's happening?  Why is it saved in the tag but NOT on the hard drive?

Thanks,

Larry

It works for me.

Does this prompt come up when you add cover art images?
Code: [Select]
Would you like to copy this image to the cover art location you have specified in options?
You may have previously answered no and ticked this option in the same confirmation dialog:
Code: [Select]
Don't show this message again
In that case you need to reset this Windows registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 11\Properties\Confirm Add Art Copy Image

- change the key value from 1 to 0 if MC does not show the confirmation dialog.

Perhaps the problem is that I'm not referring to manually "adding" cover art -- I'm referring to having MC automatically get cover art from the internet after a rip, which is how I have it set.  Does THIS work for you as well?  I've ripped several albums, and even though the files have the art in the tags, my "cover art" folder (which I re-confirmed the location of in the MC Options) is empty.

Thanks again,

Perhaps you have found a bug, but did you check the registry key I mentioned? It may somehow prevent the file copy process from happening.

Have you tried what happens if you don't add the image to the file tag? Does MC know what to do with the image file then?

Does it work when you add cover art manually from a file?

In general, the "Confirm Add Art Copy Image" key reset option should be available somewhere inside MC. Without registry editing there is no way to get the dialog window back after it has been disabled.

I don't have that key at all.  I can navigate to here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 11\Properties\

...but there is no key called anything like "Confirm Add Art Copy Image" at this location.  I do see that the "File location - Image File Location" IS in fact listed as being where it is supposed to be.  This folder, however, is still empty despite having ripped albums that DID get cover art from the internet.

I can tell you, however, that it never asked me for a confirmation on this, and I never told it to "Not confirm."

I'll have to set up a test to check this behavior.

Yes.  I just copied the art from one file to the clipboard, then pasted it to another file.  The image file is listed as "inside file," AND it's in the "Cover Art" folder.  I FINALLY have a cover art file in my cover art folder.

It seems like the problem is with the "automatically get from internet after ripping" option -- it ONLY gets saved to the tag in this case, but does not save it to the Cover Art folder.

Thanks again for your help,

Larry

I swear we used to have an option somewhere that went along the lines of "remove unused coverart".
Maybe I was dreaming?

Anyhoo..

After quite some time, the coverart directory can become littered with orphan coverart files and managing those has been a problem in the past, and a time consuming one at that. I wonder.....

brb.. :D

ever wish you had'nt started something, LOL...

I thought that I could say "save in tags also" then update tags from library on all files, thus placing the image inside all files that would accept one. then delete all the files in the specified directory and do an update library from tags and have the image files saved back into the directory.

flawed in places, I know, but a non-starter anyway because it doesn't appear to work that way.

It would seem that update tags from library after setting MC to save in tags copies the image to the file. deleting the file from the specified folder, then doing an update library on it does not copy the image file to the specified folder.

Choosing not to save in the tags, then doing an update from library does not remove the image from the tags??
Surely it should?
this sent me off on a tangent... if you're curious, it led me back to this thread:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=32139.msg220663#msg220663
where we were discussing tagging in general.

I've now broken the save in tags system, with 'update tags from library' no longer placing the image inside the file. I'm tired. I may return to this later, I may not.
