MusicNet announcement
« on: November 28, 2005, 07:20:51 pm »

Did I miss this announcement here in the forums?

o MusicNet to Integrate New Platform With JRiver Software

New York - MusicNet, the label-backed digital music service provider now owned by New York-based private equity firm Baker Capital, announced on Monday that it has partnered with multimedia software developer JRiver, to integrate MusicNet's new media platform into its consumer software. MusicNet's platform will offer music and video content via downloads, streaming and subscriptions in Microsoft's media formats. The companies plan to introduce software that delivers media content to networked home PCs some time in 2006.

Sounds like a good thing, although I am not that familiar with MusicNet... it seems to be somehow behind Yahoo music and Virgin.

Any more information for your loyal followers?

Well, well.

Clearly a good day for Minneapolis-based Ferrari dealers, I would guess.

We've been working with MusicNet for over a year.  The announcement today formalizes what has been a very good working relationship with a first rate company.

MusicNet was originally founded by Real Networks and three of the record labels: Warner Music, EMI, and BMG.  It's more closely held now.  They've been a pioneer in the digital music area, providing behind-the-scenes support for music services from AOL, Yahoo, HMV, and many others.  Variants of JRiver Media Center will power the next release of their Performer product.

Does this have any implications for future MC releases or is J River strictly providing software development services to MusicNet?

I can't see Jim in a Ferrari, More like a 1940's Vintage truck that has rusted thru. Just a guess he is more down to earth than that.

MusicNet made a good choice.

I can't say exactly what we're doing, other than providing custom versions of our player.

I don't think it will have much affect on what we release.  It probably does give us better access to bigger companies when we find a problem we need their help with.

That's what I thought...

The player is a version of MC11.1.  It looks different, but close enough you might recognize it.  It should be out later this year.
