Read-Only, But Able to Create Playlists?
« on: September 20, 2002, 07:59:04 am »

MJ is installed on a PC in my den (which is plugged into a stereo system). Everytime MJ is run on this PC, it automatically connects to a Media Server.

Currently MJ lets users think they're changing stuff in the remote database, but once they exit all their changes are gone. It seems MJ downloads the database from the MS each time it connects. Fine. Excellent. I don't want people in the den screwing up my catalog.

However, I WOULD like for people in the den to be able to create playlists and not have them blasted away (without warning) every time they close MJ.

How can I accomplish this?

I thought maybe I could just share the MJ database and run it in Party Mode in the den. But the playlists don't get saved then either.

The only workaround I can come up with is to backup the database on the server machine and restore it regularly on the den machine. But they can still delete songs from disk. Although, I guess I could set security on the song files and make them read-only to the den computer.

Any other ideas?
