Remote for MC11.1
« on: April 14, 2006, 02:28:01 pm »

I know others have done this so I can't be far off.  I have been using MC11 with my StreamZap remote for some time.  Now with 11.1, StreamZap no longer recognizes the MC.  I also have a Snapstream Firefly remote.  (Came with unit but the included software is Firrefly Lite....)

What remotes can MC11.1 support and what software do I need?

If you pair MC up with Girder, you can use any remote you like. I'm currently using a Harmony 880, that's sending commands it learned from an old VCR remote I no longer use.

The trick is finding an IR receiver that Girder or MC support. I'm using the IRMAN. It's a serial port based IR receiver and it works great.

Or check out the plugins section of the webpage to see if one of the plugins there will support your receiver.

Well, I purchased Girder 4.0.  It doesn't like the Firefly remote, but it did recognize the Streamzap.  Now, I have to figure out how to MC involved.  I found the extra directory and the GCL (??) files.   I put them into the GPL directory and Girder now can find an "Unamed" application, but it is MC.  However,

1. It's MC9 -- does this matter?
2. Now that Girder says it's there, what do I do to get MC to use it.  So far I push buttons and nothing happens except volume.

I'm really not familiar with Girder 4, as I'm still using 3.29b, but I do know that the MC9_131.gml file located in C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\Data\Extras\Girder should work fine wiith MC11. It just doesn't have ALL of the new commands.

Here is an updated GML file that includes the updated commands.

There are two sets of commands listed in the GML. IIRC, I disabled the ones that use mjextman.exe (MC11 uses MC11.exe). Like I said, I'm not sure how Girder 4 works, but you should be able to somehow map buttons on your remote to the commands in the GML file that you want to use. Maybe somebody more familiar with Girder 4 can help with that?
