Notify Area
« on: May 11, 2006, 02:44:59 pm »

I have a program running in the Notify Area It is a blue box with gray inside and a dark gray "A"

I took a picture after a re-boot of all taks in the task manager

and after a time i am not sure what loads this icon

but it is running now and i compaired the tasks and nothing new is in the task manager.

the icon has no right click or anyway to id this icon

using Spyware DR and MS defender it does not see anything running as a threat.

any ids how to figure out what this is?

Useful utilities can be found at http://www.sysinternals.com
Specifically, Autoruns and Process Explorer may come in handy

I have been having problems with my notify area for quite a while now and cannot figure out why - probably some MS patch was the cause of the problems, I don't know, but

My Apache Web Server icon does not appear any longer, although Apache is running correctly
The Webshot Application does not start automatically any longer, although it is scheduled in the startup area.

If I check the registry and task manager, everything is fine, but still have this problem ongoing! Spybot and Ad-Aware do not find anything!

I am rather helpless!

You haven't had a new keyboard have you ?
It looks a bit like one of the useless things one of my keyboards had that just showed if i had caps lock on

As a general idea though - malware doesn't usually shout in your face like that  ;)

Off topic - G6 ftp server! Haven't seen that for a while  :)

@jaguu
If you are running xp, then possibly they're hidden - have you tried right clicking on the clock in the system tray, click on 'customize notifications' and had a look at that list?
Maybe(?) it's just hidden
If you can find it on the list, you can change it between always shown/shown when active/always hide

I do have a new (cheep) keyboard.

sue had me open up some sparkling wine for her and i kind of got it wet

so i had to buy a new one.

DYNEX (It works)

I think your right, if i hit caps and numb lock it changes

I thought the FBI was after me and wire taped me without a warrant.
