Playlist sequence gets lost when coping to device. Am I missing an option?

What steps are you taking to transfer the files?

I've tried 2 ways:
1. R-click on playlist and send to device
2. Highlight files in playlist window and drag to device

I think the problem is no matter how I get them there once in the device window they are subject to a default sort by name (doesn't mean they will end up on the device that way).

Example:
PLAYLIST              AFTER COPIED TO DEVICE
Seq  Name           Seq  Name
1      Lady             1     Whenever
2      Treat Her..    2     Rushing
3      Whenever    3    Lady
4      Rushing        4   Treat Her...

I've checked the device & it isn't programed.

In the tree you should have CD,DVD and Handhelds or something similar( I have forgotten the MJ version 8 terminology). Under this you will have a drive letter for where you are sending the files. If you drag and drop the files to this location (or use send-to) you should then be able to click on the drive letter and see your files "in queue". At this point, right-click on the drive letter and select "Show queued files only".Whatever order you sort the files in is the order they will be sent and subsequently should be the order they show up on the drive. If this works for you, be sure after the transfer to right-click on the drive and select "Show all files" so the view returns to normal.

So what you're saying is the playlist order is non-transferable directly to the device or the device queue.

If you are transferring the files in the way that I described, then yes. The files are transferred based on how the files are sorted in the view. In the case of the transfer queue view, this is the order the files will be sent in unless you select "Show Queued Files only". Then the sequence will be respected irregardless of the particular column ordering.

Nope, doesn't work. In fact the order that it arrives istrange and I can think of no reason to justify it or give any hint as to what is going on.

Order on device: 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, 18, 17, 13, 8, 6, 21, 24, 25, 7, 9, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 22, 23, 10

I don't see any pattern either in the order above or in it's relationship to either the original order or anything to do with naming (artist, album, etc.) or size or file date.

I'm mystified. It's just flash memory, I even formated once to see if that would make a difference.

I set up a test on XP with MJ 8.0.399.  I dragged a Playlist to the queue and then selected "Show Queued Files Only".  When I clicked "Upload" the files were sent in the order that was shown in the Queue. I then readjusted the order and redid the test. The new order is the order the files were sent in.

Can you duplicate my test and tell me if you see the same results? Assuming you do, we need to explore what you mean by "the order on the device". I do not have your hardware, so clue me in as to what you would expect to happen on your device and if you have had any success from within Windows to get it to behave the way you want.
