importing tags
« on: August 16, 2006, 05:19:47 pm »

Hi everyone,
I have a large cd collection. Due to size, they were
originally ripped via mp3 at 64K.

I have a set of cds with their tags in c:\music.
I now want to rip an identical system into d:\music.
(bit rate will be higher thus can not copy).

Now after much pains taking work to get the tags in C:\music,
I would like to know if there is a more painless way of updating
the tags in D:\music using the tags (author/album) from C:\music.

About half of the library is from 'various artists' type of cds.
C:\music has had 'various artist' replaced with the artists name.

For the kind folks that like last name, first name - C:\music has been
modified to the manner which most people to use. i.e. first name, last name.

So I would simply prefer to use my own data. Rip cd xyz into D:\music
and tell some software package to get the needed tag info from
C:\music\xyz. Or a database of C:\music\xyz.db

The music packages seem to be quite helpful to export a database
but no so helpful when it comes to importing data.

Yes, one at a time will work but it is not practical.

TIA

Get all your existing tracks loaded into MC.

Then rip the same music to the same EXACT filename as your existing music tracks.

Then copy the new files over the old files.

Highlight the tracks in MC, right click and choose

Library Tools -> Update Tags from Library.

That works. A bit of a long way round the barn but a whole lot shorter than edit 1 at a time.

1st I put the old cd through MC.
I then took them the old and the new through tagscanner so as to use just the titles of each set (EXACT filename). Highlighted, right click, etc. as you said. It worked. Finally I could put them through tagscanner again to recapture the artist if desired.

Thanks for the help.
